Sad state of national parks and forests - II

I've less than 2 years ago reported here the sad state of our national parks and national forests after family camping in Yosemite, Redwood, Raiinier, Lassen Volcanic, Lake Tahoe... which I posit with a link of reduced budgets for our national parks.

Then with my ongoing coastal California sojourn, I can't help but compare this states' (state, country and city) immaculate toilet facilities and well maintained surroundings of their campgrounds -- even for a county that just recently declared bankruptcy and granting that these campgrounds must be getting a slice of the state's $74 billion surplus.

Politics aside as this will benefit us RVers, I just hope that the administration, since he said he will model FDR who build our public/national park system, restore and even increase to cover previous chronic shortfalls on the budget for these recreational resources in the infrastructure plans. As a Keynesian, I think this will also redound to a return to a booming economy as what happened under FDR.

Why are you blaming fla_gypsy for that? They aren't a moderator and don't have the ability to delete posts....

Have you read the unedited post to know what's been said before you opened your trap?

It's a shame politics are destroying this thread. I wish this country would get back to the realistic viewpoint that 4 years in the white house won't destroy us. If the "other side" wins the election, just effing deal with it for 4 years and vote against them next election. And once they are out, let it go - they're out. Why must be go on for years and years and years...

Compared w $750.00??????

Compared to the $400,000 salary donation alone, your retyping a prior typo, at least get your lies straight.

I don't know about modern math. But in our elementary arithmetic, $3.7 million paid by Biden is bigger than the $750 paid by Trump -- or still higher if he donated $400,000 and change of his salary.

And we don't care about donations, just pay the nooestt taxes for his self-proclaimed billions, and we are all good.

I'm off this forum but these kinds of mindless last two posts before me that sets my hackles and raise the dead.:E

Yeah, I only researched to tie up my observations about the deteriorating conditons of our national parks that I just camped recently and digged into the national parks budget..

And indeed, politics aside, it's budgets get cut under Obama, understandably with the Great Recession. Then further cut under Trump, seems on their sense of priority since they gave $1 Trillion tax cuts to big business,

And oh yea, I must not know about budgets since it's what I did for a living with several global-multinational companies.

When Donald Trump was President, he donated his annual salary to the Nat'l Park Service. Not a lot of money to the NPS total budget, but nice gesture showing he was aware of their problems.

Indeed a nice gesture. And he added some more of his own from his personal wealth to round it off to $100,00 since it's just $78,000.

I'm not one to tell anyone what to do with their own money, but I would have preferred his administration did not cut $2 billion out of the national parks budget while giving big business $1 trillon in tax cuts that promised economic boom that did not happen.

And a bit of irony, it's when the NPS is asking for funds just to address these maintenance backlogs.

3 card monte......wish people would learn.

$750.00, that's seven hundred and fifty dollars, in federal taxes for a YEAR.

Yes and presidential salary is $400,000 not $78,000. Plus $50,000 for expenses.

And while it may not be nearly enough, look at what the other party has actually given from their own pockets, from Obama, to SlowJoe to Harris, NONE give as much as Trump did. You may not like him, but from a personal standpoint, he has done/donated more than any others for the last 30 years.

Wow......

You’ve got things entirely backwards.

The truth

Partisan drivel, and had nothing to do with the donations to the park service, only a hate filled screed which apparently fits your agenda.

If I wanted to bash I would have said he "welched" on the loans, instead of the more polite "discharged." 😉

As you stated Biden paid over $5 million in taxes can you explain how a HONEST politician ( LOL ) makes enough money to have to pay that in tax's.

Books and speeches most likely. The returns were published for all to see, unlike tRump.

I think the real question is how can a purported BILLIONAIRE ( LOL ) could only pay $750 for a year. tRummp LOST nearly a billion (of other people's money), and has been milking that loss for 2 decades. Of course he's also neglected to count all those discharged loans as income.

I think part of this is due to a change in users. Years ago, most "campers" were younger. As folks aged, camping became uncomfortable, so they stopped. Hauling gear, dealing with tents, sleeping on the ground, etc, began to outweigh being outdoors. Older folks stayed in lodges and limited their time roughing it.

Now, with RVs decked out with all the comforts of home, older folks are able to keep camping. And as they have the time to do a lot of it, they have become the majority. So many campgrounds are trying to cater to their wants. That means electricity, water, sewer, flush toilets, etc.

Fortunately, there are lots of options. I love USFS campgrounds. They allow dogs on trails, they are more old school and usually have privacy between sites, and they are inexpensive. For someone else, a state park campground with hookups is ideal. For another, a private campground with store, playground, laundry, hookups, pool, etc, is perfect.

As long as our campgrounds continue to offer such options, there is a place for everyone. It's when they all cater to the same demographic that we all lose.
