Were looking to visit salton sea, CA. I'm wondering of the various RV parks near the sea what are the finest ones to visit. Pools, activities, price, passport america allowed, attractions, etc. Thanks Mark

We took a driving tour on the nw side of salton sea. Drove into a "town" to get closer to the water. Saw drug deals going down and police driving around. Roads potted and old. Got out of there quickly. Drove into Oasis RV park. Nice but nothing spectacular either.

Wow Wow Wow Wow. Gosh Ive never seen written a worse description of a place. Thanks so much. We will be at the FMCA rally in Indio--I thought it might be a nice place to spend a week afterwards for some sun. Guess I'll look at some of your recommendations. Thanks again.

WHO SAID - "I want to camp at Salton Sea"? NOBODY!

Go to Anza Borrego (Borrego Springs), or ElCentro two there Sunbeam or Rio Bend. BBT
I'll NEVER be an "EXPERT" (In math.X is an unknown factor and a "SPURT" is just a drip - under pressure)

It's a strangely cool and bizarre place in a post-apacolyptic kind of way. I shot a film there for 4 days many years ago. I slipped on dead tilapia constantly and swallowed several flies. It's nice for a few quick stops but I do not recommend camping there for any length of time.

San Diego is bleaching the sidewalks and trying to contain an hepatitis epidemic. The slabs shouldn't be washed or dipped, it should be soaked in bleach. Drive through in your vehicle one time but cover your kids eyes so they dont see some of the signs that people have posted. Dont forget to swing through Bombay Beach.

I love the Salton Sea and have been there a million times but mostly to see the birds. But like others have said, there isn't a lot there except for the birds. I have checked out the RV parking and its pretty bleak. Wiest Lake County Park near Brawley isn't horrid, its on the water and there is some shade. If I had to recommend a place, I would tell you to get a place at the State Park south of Mecca. Its probably the nicest. If your military, El Centro and if your brave, Slab City.

These people have pretty well nailed it. I was there on a photo shoot twice and it is so bad it is hard to describe. And be very careful on the west side if you go there; my personal opinion that those who live there don't really want company. We are, once again, in Indio for two months....not going anywhere near there.

One thing to remember is that the Salton Sea is not a natural lake/ environment. There was no Salton Sea until a mistake by engineers caused massive uncontrolled flooding in 1905. It took about two years to stop the flooding,

The sea is slowly drying up, returning to the natural dry Lake bed.

That said, it was an interesting must see about a year ago as we traveled from Las Vegas to San Diego, but as others have mentioned, the smell ensured we would not stop for an overnight.

We stopped there once. Don't see the need to ever go back. Once is enough. Place stinks.

Google salton sea and watch the documentary. It is NOT a place to rv to.

I agree with the others.
Been to Salton Sea and Niland numerous times.
It's gotten worse over time.

The only reason to camp there, is if you want to stay at Slab City.
