San Angelo State Park

Has anyone camped at San Angelo State Park? My hometown is close to the park and we will be camping there after Thanksgiving. I hear the North Shore is better. Any recommendations?
Thanks
  • Update camping in San Angelo. I must make reservations next week for camping in San Angelo the end of June. Will have the 2 grandkids with us, 5 and 7. I am attending my 50 year reunion in Eldorado on a Saturday. Lots to do in Angelo and I am impressed by what I read about Spring Creek RV. Wished they had a pool for grandkids. Seems like KOA is not well maintained and don't know if they have a pool.

Any suggestions or has anyone stayed at Spring Creek?
    Thanks,
    James
  • OC Fisher lake does have some water in it now after the last rain. The park is pretty barren. Is your hometown anywhere near Abilene instead? Abilene State park is much better.
  • Have you looked in to staying at Spring Creek in San Angelo with the lake across from the campsites. We have stayed once, but it is a really nice park. The KOA is okay for a night or two. We have only driven through the state park, not on our list to stay at.

  • I camped there a few spring breaks ago. For us, there was no compelling reason to go back. The park was pretty simple, not really any shade trees and there were a lot of burrs on the ground getting stuck on everything! Not much grass at the sites.

The lake was basically non existent.

They do have a buffalo herd right by the park and we did see them a few times.
