Southern Oaks RV Park - Summerfield FL

Our first snowbirding adventure included a visit with relatives that live in The Villages. There are a couple of choices for campgrounds in the area and southern Oaks is the closest (10 miles).

Southern Oaks is a medium size park (140 sites) right on US 441 and close to US 301 and I-75. It's convenient to nothing other than The Villages. Most sites are seasonal residents in 5ers, motor homes and a few park models. However, it's probably the friendliest bunch of people I've run into yet.

Full hookups with sewer and cable are the norm. You need to pick up a cable box at the office. For the first time, I had issues with my video switch and had to bypass it to get a cable signal. The sites are sand, but every site has a 10X20 concrete pad in good shape. Some of the sewer hookups are quite a distance from the site.

The park has a pool and a clubhouse where they seem to have some kind of activity every day. It's also within walking distance of a large Camping World. Enterprise in Belleview picks up at the park.

I can recommend this place if you are visiting The Villages. $250 for the week. We're hitting a local Italian restaurant tomorrow, so I'll update with a review.
  • Had dinner at Francesco's Italian Ristorante about 3 miles south of Southern Oaks on US 441. We also got a couple of pizzas from there for lunch the day before. Pizzas are 2 for 1. Dinner was very good. DW had lasagna and I had salmon. Mondays they have a dinner for 2 special, 2 apps, 3 entrees $13 or less, a bottle of house wine and a shared dessert for $30.
