This is an odd question I know, but what the heck, it's a brand new year, and this IS the internet. Bonjour all you French models ;) :BIt's starting to look like we'll have a month plus to spend while heading north. The problem is, we won't have an RV only a SUV. We'll be starting out from the Orlando, FL area near the end of March. Any idea's how/where we can spend a month (doesn't have to be all in one spot) without killing the budget ????I was thinking it would be neat to do some of these State park cottages that I've heard of, hopefully in area's that are destinations for the locals of that state when they leave their S&B's for the weekends. Asking a lot I know, but I'm more then happy to weed thru the responses if I get any to pick the ones that would work for us. BTW, Happy, healthy, and a prosperous New Year to everyone, J&J

OP here, one more thing Casino hotels, RV park models, out of the way reasonable and nice Ma&Pa cottages/cabins are all on the it would work list. It doesn't have to be limited only to State Park cabins.

I can recommend Hontoon Island State Park in Deland FL. You park your SUV, hop the (free) ferry to the island with your personal gear, and relax.

There is also a great place in Tavares, FL right down off the main road into Orlando. Real nice cabins which actually more like little houses, great owners and right on the lake. I stayed their in my MH loved it. Search Craig's list for vacation rentals in the areas you would like to go. Also maybe check out Bed & breakfasts. Don't be shy about asking for a better rate for stays longer than a few days. The work required for the owner would be about the same for a 2 day stay as a week stay and mid week days often stay empty.

...how 'bout a private cabin, with loft, and appliances on a rocky outcrop in casco bay, maine, inside a 600 acre park (recompence shores / wolf's neck foundation inc. near freeport, me) ?

We camp at this massive ranch/campground every year. You have canoeing, hiking, and world-class shopping and restaurants all within minutes of this site...

They have a website, and you can get a weekly deal on one of the cabins, i'm sure (with view of the atlantic).

I would head up 75 Maybe do Stone Mountain out of Atlanta then onto Chattanoga, Knoxville, Pigeon Forge Area and on up. Checking for cabin rentals on line before and calling to get a cut rate price because it will still be before thier season and you should be able to get deals along the way. Pick your route and then find things along it, always plenty to see and do in this great country.

Most all of the Virginia State Parks have cabins, and there are 36 of them, so anywhere you go through, there should be a park within 100 miles.

OP here again.

Just to clarify it's not just Florida, but the whole route up north to let's say Michigan (then it will be a mad dash home.) Since gas is no-longer an issue I can even take a non-direct route and hit a few local destination areas.

I was thinking about incorporating the Blue Ridge Mountains, since when I get the next RV I might shy away from doing them. Any local knowledge would be appreciated.

another thing you can try is www.woodalls.com and search for Florida, then check the box that says onsight rentals. Many RV parks have cabins.

Live Oak Landing in Freeport FL has beautiful cottages. They also have a place in Pine Mountain GA and Hot Springs AR. They have weekly rates that are more affordable and in line with state park cabin rates.
Silver River State Park in Ocala has nice cabins.
