State Parks

Hi all,

We are planning several trips to PA/MD state parks near us.

Anyone been to any of these parks and think we will have any issues maneuverability?

We are planning to go to :
Hickory Run
French Creek
Promise Land State Park
Locust Lake
Point Lookout State Park (I know this in in MD)

Also, any advice on which routes to take into these parks? We will be traveling to each park on a different short trip, not in succession.

Our current TV and TT (just under 35 ft.) are listed in my signature.
  • We have stayed at French Creek several times on our way north in the spring. Nice park. Here is a post with comments and pictures.
  • I stayed in French Creek with my 30' TT. No worries on that. Vegetation was think in July, so site seemed cramped, but was a positive experience overall.
  • A 35 ft TT is pretty big for some Pa State Parks. We have a 26ft TT and I don't see many sites that will accomodate yours at Locust Lake. And even if the site would fit, backing in could be an issue. We often camp at Locus Lake. They have a great paved trail around the lake and a nice swimming beach.Promised Land Pickeral Point has a loop with full hookups. I think you would have better luck finding a site there because there are fewer trees to hinder backing into a site.We don't like the campground at French Creek. Many sites have the picknick table and camp fire ring behind the camper instead of next to it. That set up often puts you closer to you neighbor than we prefer. The rest of the park is fine and if you like history,Hopewell Village, a national Park historic site is next door.
  • Promised Land is one of our favorites! Most sites on Pickerel Point are good. Lower sites all the way out are FHU even.
  • Point Lookout is close to me, however I've never camped there....yet. I've heard the mosquitoes will pick you up and carry you away.

Not to high jack the thread, but what are everyone's experience at Point Lookout?
  • When going to PA state parks, don't believe the site length. At Hickory Run, my site was indeed long enough, just bent in the middle. A little landscape work was necessary. I did like the park.
  • Ditto on Point Lookout. We had no issues with our 35' TT in the full hookup loop.
  • Hi,

I'm only familiar with Point Lookout SP in MD. You shouldn't have any problem, as long as your site is in the full hookup loop. The other loops are iffy, some sites are easy to get into, others are not, for a big RV.

    Have a good time!
