Sturgeon fishing

Anybody know a good place to fish for sturgeons?
  • When I was a kid there were some huge sturgeon (hundres of pounds) killed by blasting at the construction site of the Dalles dam. We fished between Stevenson and Dallesport and almost always caught keepers. Couldn't keep anything over 6 feet though and sometimes we had to release the big ones. The rules have changed and apparently more closely enforced these days.
  • Just up river from Astoria, OR on the Wa. side. I also hear the Frasier in B.C.
  • You can come to Wisconsin next winter and spear them through a hole in the ice on Lake Winnebago.
  • I have seen the Sturgeon jumping down here in Florida along the Santa Fe river. Quite impressive.

True, and be aware there are very strict regulations on the Columbia for all fishing and they will be checking.

The TV show River Monsters did a segment about white sturgeon fishing on the Columbia.
  • Well I don't know about how you catch them but the Suwannee River has sturgeon. Supposedly up to 8 footers. They jump out of the water and take out a boater once in awhile.

Looks like they are a protected species tho. According to the above link.
