the size of Yellowstone
So many people post questions about Yellowstone, and many aren't aware of how big it is. Here are a few stats, compiled from various online sites and from a recent article in our local newspaper:
About 3500 square miles, about 60 miles by 50 miles
198 miles of main roads
124 miles of secondary roads (most of which are paved)
125 acres of parking lots (and trust me, folks, the last thing I'd describe the park as, is "one big parking lot"!)
an estimated 300+ waterfalls, most unnamed
an estimated 10,000 thermal features (geysers, hot springs, fumaroles, etc.)
Yellowstone is bigger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined.
Perhaps this will help some folks with their planning. :)
