Recently retired and DW and I are thinking about places to winter. May have an opportunity to work camp in the Tombstone area.... just thinking about it.

So, what can others tell me about that area; good or bad. We would be there Jan - March.

There are many places that will be nicer and warmer than Tombstone. It is fun to visit there for a day or 2. Bisbe is pretty.

I have an acquaintance from Tombstone. He winters in S. Cal.

Believe it or not...there are other places that people can shop at besides Wal Mart. I for one won't set foot in a Wal Mart. Tombstone is a very touristy place. I've been there several times. Haven't yet seen an RV park I would stay at for more than a day or two. Sierra Vista is way larger and has all the major stores and eating places. It's only about 20 miles away.

I drive through Tombstone that's about 1/2way from Tucson to the teaming metropolis of beautiful Douglas, Arizona... (That's a joke). Likely one of the poorest towns in the US, but there is a Walmart backed up right to the border fence. iIRC, you are also right down the road from the border check. That's probably the only excitement within 50 miles in any direction.

How far from shopping..... Walmart, etc.? DW wants to know.

I did some research on the weather and was surprised to see the average temps in Jan, Feb, Mar. fairly low. It seems pretty far south but I am not familiar with desert weather.

Sierra Vista, AZ about 20 miles away has lots of shopping(Walmart), dinning, etc. Lots more than Benson or Bisbee.

"It seems pretty far south but I am not familiar with desert weather"....but it is higher in elevation....thus colder than say Yuma at 180' above sea level. Tombstone should be about 4500'+....you want warmer, go down in elevation. Sierra Vista is less than 30 minutes away and has most of the shopping you'll probably need. Lots of hiking in the Chirichahua Mountains

Previous poster is on the money wrt weather. Also, its kind of remote so there really isn't a bunch to do or places to shop like Walmart, Fry's etc. There is enough to keep you busy for maybe a week (Bisbee, Douglas, Benson etc) but after that bring a good book.

The area may get some snow during January. Night temperatures may get into the low 20's but usually warms up during the day to the 50's.
