Travel to Two Medicine Campground Via Kiowa

In researching the directions to Two Medicine Campground in Glacier National Park, I see that the turn off to the campground in East Glacier requires driving under a 13' limit railroad bridge. We have to measure our fifth wheel (again) to be sure, but if we won't fit, has anyone driven to Two Medicine campground by way of Kiowa? Thanks.
  • Today we finally hooked up our fifth wheel and measured the highest point - actually measured the two AC's. Our Trav'ler satellite dish, when in travel mode, is two inches shorter than the highest point which is the front low profile AC at 12' 9 and 3/4" with the back AC at 12' 5 and 1/2". We're good to go if the smoke clears enough to go to Glacier and Two Medicine.

I see by your profile that you have a Heartland Bighorn 3055 the same model we have. That gives me hope. We have a second low profile AC and satellite dish, so we'll still have to measure to be sure.

Thanks for the feedback Lucy. What site at Two Medicine did you use?

Thanks for the feedback, Mike. Accsys's information supports your comment!
  • Accsys - Thank you! Your photos help immensely. I remember now reading something about limitations on that section of Hwy 49. We have to measure the height of our fifth wheel again, so we will either go to Two Medicine campground or St. Mary based on that.
  • The highway to Two Medicine is MT-49 and is accessible from US-2 at East Glacier and that is where the underpass you refer to is. This picture is the approach to that underpass from US-2:

The north end of MT-49 is accessible from US-89 at Kiowa as you stated but has the sign in this picture just before you turn on to MT-49.

The route from the north goes up and around a mountain and back down before you get to Two Medicine. I did see a 35' MH on that portion of MT-49 a couple of days ago but I sure wouldn't have liked to be behind the wheel!

You want to go through that underpass if at all possible.
