USFS Au Sauble Rollways
I recently visited the "Rollways" Forest Service campground, on the Au Sauble River, in the Huron National Forest, Michigan.
The campground is on a river, but the river is well below the grade of the campground, I could find no easy access directly from the campground. There is a USFS picnic area adjacent with a L O N G stairway down to the river, one couple stated it was in excess of 200 stairs.
The campground itself is very nice, about 20 sites, all paved pull-through setup as curved spurs off a loop road. The sites are about 40x60 ft or so, lots of room for just about anything Wheeled vehicles are not allowed off the pavement, so if you have a really long rig, the curve or length of the spur might get you. Each site has a nice "wild area" buffer between the neighbor.
A heavy iron fire pit / ring with grill, picnic table and garbage hook are provided. There are pedestals providing cold running water, and vault toilets.
I stayed two nights at site 18, and could hear big rigs, monster truck pickups and loud bikes blasting along the nearby Rollways Road, but I imagine the more interior sites are quiet.
The bugs were not bad, mainly noseeums and large biting flies.
There isn't much to do around the campground as far as attractions or trails. I'm guessing in the fall when it's time to go forth and kill God's creatures (hunting season), this campground is more active.
