Walmart in Cottonwood AZ

Because of an incident involving a family of paranoid, belligerent crazies a few months ago, overnight parking is no longer allowed at this Walmart. This has always been a city ordinance, but was not enforced. Because of the actions of that family, the ordinance is now being enforced and the entire RV community has lost this privilege.

WM's asphalt RVing is used by many in route to the great wonders of America, as well as many other destinations.

Just because you do not partake or see the need you believe nobody should?

Many layover the night at many casino's. Should we close all of them down as well?

What about truck stops? What's your take on them?

First, I never will even shop at a WM, they are ,to me, as bad as a terrorist group to America.
I do support and enjoy the casinos and stay for several nights not just a wham bam thing.
I use truck stops for fuel only. With a 40' TT they offer the best choice to fuel. Sleep there, not hardly.
I know a lot of folks just do not plan their trips as I do or time limits cause them problems,as they are still worker bees, and time does have significance. I will never do WM or several other places do to their treatment of their fellow Americans and the cost to all of us as most are on government assistance. But that is me and several folks I know. We can be snooty towards some trash and don't need to patronize them.

Good to know about the planned construction. We will be back east most of next year. But I want to come back out west the year after.

That's too bad. A few years ago we went to the Thousand Trails Campground on ThousandTrails Road south of Cottonwood on Hwy 279. Just as you turned off onto TT road we could see a # of rigs boondocking on the left side of the road. They actually had a fantastic view!!!!!!! Can anyone tell me if that area is still available????

Yes. Sometimes crowded but still a boondocking spot.

That is where the local 'stealth' group is now hanging out due to Walmart not being available.

Widening of 260 with 9 'round-abouts' from Thousand Trails to I-17 begins next year so area travel will be a mess for couple years (+) and the 'stealth group' may have to move along.

Asphalt RVing may or may not be someone's preferred style, but it would have been awfully handy since we arrived after dark a day early for our Thousand Trails reservation. Yes, you can still boondock outside the park. That is where we are, now. But we would have preferred to avoid coming into an unfamiliar area in the dark after a good rain and not being sure if we would get stuck in the mud.

I don't blame Walmart or the city or the police. I blame the family of wackobirds that caused the trouble. I love this area, with its awesome scenery and wide open spaces, and would love to have a permanent base here eventually. But I am not blind to the fact that those same wide open spaces can allow a type of disconnection from society that positively encourages any slight eccentricity to grow and blossom into full blown nutbaggery.

Didn't take too long for that comment to appear.

Now let's get in to another full-blown discussion about Walmart parking.

I think the wm by me stopped allowing overnight as well. It's always been an ordinance just never enforced. Wm camping isn't my bag either but I could see it as a quick overnight. I think the issue at the wm by me was the garbage being left. Probably more the truckers than campers, as it included the usual jugs of urine. It was getting pretty seedy looking in the area of the lot overnighting was allowed, so much that I asked my wife not to use the entrance near there. Again, while I can see some overnighting in a parking lot, good riddance to it happening in my neighborhood.

Walmart has also closed the Clarksville, Indiana (5 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky) parking lot to overnighters.
I've been to all 50 States but my RV hasn't.
