Just a heads up. There is a threat to close 17 of 22 Alabama State Parks very soon (2 weeks?) due to budget problems. I see DESOTO and CHEAHA is on the hit list. Thats a couple of my favorites in the high country corridor of AL-GA-NC-SC.. Will certainly be missed on this front..Roy Ken

We spend a lot of time at Desoto and love the place. I think if they closed it I would no longer go to any of their state parks.

Comparison to neighbor states

Humm, they don't pull Georgia stats.

Recently we have been visiting Al state Parks out of home state GA, due to their supportting and building Mtn Bike trails, vs. Georgia state parks not as progressive with these programs.

Talk to the parks directly about their closure...Seems this action is pretty fluid. One park on the May 1 or June 1 closure list says they will be open until Oct., might have said 2016?
