The only problem with the site is I became a host - tough when you don't know much about the area! The designated sites are for small Class B or tents, but there is a large parking lot next to the host site that provides dry camping space. It has been awhile since I visited - 2014, so things may have changed.
What about the Palouse Falls park, that's on my list for summer.

Deception Pass state park would be good for a few days, you would be about 15 minutes from the San Juan Island ferry. A ferry trip or whale watching trip to see the resident Orcas.

What ever you dicide to do, if you want to stay in State Parks make your reservations NOW!
Even now, the better spots or even just sites with utilities will probably be booked solid.
We have to make all our reservations 9 months in advance.
Hope you enjoy our state!
