No fire in the Red Feather Lakes area. It was the High Park fire in the lower Poudre Canyon and lower Glacier View Meadows, but did not impact the campgrounds around Red Feather Lakes.

We stay at West Lake at least once every season. There are reservations sites as well as first come/first served sites. All sites have electric hookups, but you'll need to bring water (water is available at the CG, but not hose compatible). There's goodly space between most sites. It's very busy on weekends and can even be difficult to get in during the week. Arrival timing is essential.

All of the sites are convenient to the lake, which has fishing available -- sometimes good/sometimes not so good. There's a trail around the lake, it's about 1.5 miles completely around and is an easy walk, minimal elevation change. And speaking of elevation, it's at 8200ft, so it can get chilly there in the evenings, even at the height of the summer, but it's very refreshing first thing in the morning! Season starts in late May.

There's also Dowdy Lake to the east, Creedmore Lake to the north, and Bellaire Lake further west and south a bit. We actually prefer Bellaire Lake; there was some blow down damage to the trees there, so it's pretty open now and the USFS is still cleaning it up (from a couple seasons ago), but it's a very quiet CG.
  • That area had a bad forest fire a couple of years ago so call USFS and see if it is still there.
