Which Campground Will You Never Go Back To

I have been to many, but there is really only one I will never go back to, Candy Hill in Winchester, VA. This is not a bash on them, just curious as to others black listed places.

I'm in the Colorado Springs area for 3 nights. Left Pikes Peak RV Park after a Major falling out with owner/manager/employee (?) , not sure which. Long story short, I didn't appreciate his interferrancen with parking. What's this new trend where parks want to tell you how to drive. Backing in he tells me which gear to put the truck in, which way to turn the steering wheel, etc. This guy
even wanted to tell me how to set my camper up after parking.
Owners, I drove this thing half way across the country to get here. Tell which spot to park in and leave me alone.

For the record Candy Hill is one of my least favorite places as well.

I've never stayed anyplace quite like Candy Hill, and I hope that I never do again,

The campground is nice, the staff is great, but yes those Biting Midges (not gnats) can be absolutely terrible - mostly in late Summer and the Fall. Bug repellent helps quite a bit. If you are sitting outdoors, high speed fans tend to keep the midges away from you.

FYI, this species of Midges live in the salt marshes all along the coast.

Late to the party but someone brought this thread back to life, so...

Crooked River is one of our favorite places. Not a far travel distance for us, giant sites, good for kids to bike ride, and we love that type of marsh environment. ,ages us feel right at home ๐Ÿ˜‰

A few bugs don't bother us native Floridians.

Very weird sites, parallel parking along interior roads with your door opening into the street, electric was so bad it tripped our Power management system. We called maintenance and he brought a light bulb to plug in, and insisted that the electric worked fine when the light bulb lit.. He did finally move us.
Oh, and the trains literally came thru the campground, they were so close. Never again!

I did think it was interesting to see all the "votes" for Candy Hill. We stayed there one night on our way from MA to TX. It was ok for that but I remember thinking it was pricy for what you got.

Injun Joes in Hannibal, Mo. Ther's some large billboard signs advertising them along side the highways as a good Sam park. We pulled in and looked around. The park manager showed us where we could park for the night. The sites were not level, not mowed and just an absolute dump. We decided not to stay and moved on. It turned out they were no longer a Good Sam park. I guess it was a pretty nice park under the previous owner. This park is mostly full time residents with some pretty junky rigs.

We have stayed at 182 different RV parks - nearly all in the western 11 states and two western provinces. I / we can tolerate most anything except lack of honesty. There are three - one in Moab, UT, one in Hurricane, UT and one in Kelso, WA - that seriously violated that. If you have questions about those places feel free to drop me a PM or email.

This park and Bourne Scenic Park on the canal are pretty much occupied all summer by year round Cape residents that rent their house all summer. They move into the trailer, rent out the house and pay the mortgage and taxes for the year.

Peters Pond on Cape Cod. There are more full timers in those pre fab cabins that own them. They didnt care for us "transients" even though we were there for a week. The guy on the end of our loop kids took over the street and when we were coming and going, he couldnt stink eye us enough. If that wasnt enough the pond is small, and from seemingly sunup to sun down, the kids on the motorboats and jet skis just did circles all day. It was like camping at a nascar track but with boats. Never never return to Yogi Bear Sturbridge. It was only a one night stay but if we had felt comfortable driving longer, we would not have stayed. We asked for a pull thru so we didn't have to unhook car from motorhome. Little did we know the pull thrus were so close together that we couldn't even open our door all the way due to the slideout from the unit beside of us. What little grass there was apparently hadn't been mowed all summer (this was August) because it was at least 8 inches high. Management rude. Filthy place.

I'll agree with you on that place... When I was there with our camping companions we were parked door to door. Kinda nice, I put out my awning and it touch his camper, like adjoining sites. No campfire that night, it was right under our awning. There was no sewer hook up in our area either, so when it became time to leave we had to tour the whole place to get to the one and only dump station. It wouldn't have been so bad if I could fit under the tree limbs. I had to haul it back to NH and dump in my own facilities. Not a bad place if you don't mind camping in a old gravel pit with hundreds of your new closest friends.

Oh, I should mention it was some sort of Halloween that weekend and we had about 200 kids come knocking on out door. Which we would have gladly left a bowl treats for them if we'd only been informed. It was still September. who knew????

Wasn't our favorite either, lots of unkept campers, blue tarps. Our site was so unlevel, I used every block of wood I had and still couldn't level my TT. Interior roads were very tight making the 90 degree turns and just missing a few large trees.

Our worst was Brialee Family Camping in Connecticut. A combination of things: Nasty manager, unfriendly seasonals (really bad), and lack of maintenance. Lack of maintenance means the grossest bathrooms we've been in - backed up toilets, standing disgusting water on the floor, not cleaned all weekend.

Now, we haven't been there in years, so I hesitated to post this, but I went to read some recent reviews about the place... turns out things seemingly have not changed! A couple bad reviews, then a bunch of "best" reviews - hmmmm.

Some other campgrounds we've been to may have some bad reviews, but we went knowing what to expect.

One campground, on a drive through tour, just isn't all that great - but we've always had a fantastic time there and the people are all great.

Another campground right near my house is a "party" campground. If you go there wanting a quiet, undisturbed weekend - you will not like it. If you go there ready to have a few drinks with your neighbors and basically meet the whole campground as everyone (and all the kids) walk around saying hello, you will have a great time.
