Who designs campgrounds?

Surely it cannot be CG users. Sorry about the rant, sometimes a bunch of little things build up & hit a nerve.

We are traveling RVers, not weekend warriors using the same CG weekend after weekend, so we never get to know any CGs real well.

The biggest complaint is poor signage to find the CG. We are currently at a CG, a large one that is unseen from the highway, that does not even have a sign at the intersection letting one know that it is here. From one direction there is a sign saying that you have PASSED it & turn around. From the other direction there is a sign almost a half mile from the intersection saying to make the next left.

The last CG we were at had a nice paved pad for the RV, however the ground surrounding the pad was so low a high step box was needed to get to the lowest RV step. This is common. Why does the RV get the nice pad & we have to step off into dirt? Seems like it should be the other way. Went to the dump & who was the rocket scientist who set this one up? Dump hole is far from RV side & the cover hinges TOWARDS the RV, not away from it.

Still on dump locations, who thinks a good location for the dump is above ground & way at the back of the site pad when most RVs have their discharges near the middle?

We love a fire & the variety of fire rings never cease to amaze but why do so many NOT have any vent holes so that air can get in & actually allow the fire to burn cleanly? Have the designers of these things never lit a fire?

Here endeth the rant, for now.

So many CG's are designed and built on the "CHEAP" without sensible logic and it causes lots of user problems and the owners or management wondering why RV'ers tend to go to other CG's when possible. DUH! The CG design, build, and present condition turns off so many RV'ers and not to stay even if they can find the entrance in the first place. Poor or inadequate electric hookup service and/or hookup locations, WIFI that's a joke at best due to cheaping out, very questionable cable TV service, sewer inlets requiring very long hoses, tiny sites and hard to get into with anything over maybe 25', the not flat and level pad and patio areas with having very decent rain water run off leaving muddy areas which breeds bugs etc and dirt/mud tracking, poor internal CG signage really sucks, very poorly designed/built/maintained CG interior roads but they were cheap, unclean poorly designed and/or weather sealed bathouses with lacking features and very tiny showers/dressing areas places to sit while dressing - everthing gets WET. Just a few gripes!

We have a long list of CG's that we'll not ever stay at again and it just keeps getting longer each year due to these issues and several more. Also have a very long list of CG's not having these issues and it's getting longer also and that's where we spend our CG dollars and will keep on doing so.

My only complaint is to tilt the dump station roadway toward the drain just a bit.
The whole downhill thing appears to be confusing.

In Oregon, many of the state cgs were built MANY years ago. The one that floored me was the site that had parking for 2 vehicles, and the vehicles had to park at about a 45 degree slant!!!!!!!!! nope, didn't park there!
Trees are an issue for us and we don't have a tall MH! Camping right now where the limbs are just barely scraping.....we had no choice. Talked to the manager and she said she's tried to get the owner to trim the trees......he's losing business with the large MHs. yeah.....dumb owner!

Regarding the dump stations..............usually the counties have rules are where and how they're installed. I know ours at home was installed at such a level (the requirement) that we couldn't tie into it for the MH. Because they said s##t couldn't travel uphill........:( But we had no choice in the matter.....

And I agree - Who set's up CGs? Many CGs could be so much better setup but you need the knowledge upfront which is often missing.

BTW I've found the Allstays Camp and RV app to very helpful in finding CGs and a LOT more. It certainly helps to have a map of the CG location.

Many were designed long ago for the venerable 20' TT.

And few CG owners have ever driven a 40' DP through their CG.

NO EXCUSE FOR THE TREES!
My Kharma ran over my Dogma.

Mine is the sewer inlet being 10" above ground on an uphill... Don't they know that******flows DOWNHILL?? -- we all have worked long enough to know that ~:B

I carry enough extension cords, hoses and coax for any site including parking backwards for a better view. 30' on the sewer hose so never had a problem when parked in the right direction. If parked backwards then I know up front the limitations.

But those above ground sewer drains can be a health issue since spills are more likely. They should be below ground in a concave cement pad.

Another potential safety issue is locating the power pedestal near the water or sewer. Power and water on the ground don't mix well. And then there are the pedestals with NO CB...
