Winter Camping Liberty Harbor RV Park, NJ

Hello Everybody,

Considering a December family trip to visit NYC and hoping to stay at Liberty Harbor RV Park. I am aware that it is a parking lot and just a place to park close to NYC but, has any one ever gone there in the winter months? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob (in Michigan)
  • It will be open, unless something atypical has happened. Call them.

I would count on using the electric hookups only, using on-board water or maybe even traveling winterized. I was there for a week in early December last year, chose rather to stay in a mid-town hotel. Temperatures were either side of freezing, being that close to the ocean helps moderate to that range most of the early winter. Still, a water supply hose could freeze if temperatures dip for a long time.

Getting there might be more of a challenge, depending on how the weather systems are moving. Lake Erie will not yet be frozen, any air coming down from the north or northwest can generate heavy lake effect snows across your travel corridor. Last time I drove it, starting from Toledo at about noon, got into New Jersey about 2 AM, but that was late Spring or early Summer, not towing.
  • I've never stayed there, as I live only 10 miles from there, but I have ridden my mountain bike thru there, and I can confirm it's little more than a small parking lot. Super convienient to NYC and liberty park is a nice walk or picnic area. nothing else going for the RV park. Pull up an overhead view on google or other map
  • Howdy!

They are the best ones to answer your question. It been a while but as I recall they are not FHU site water & electric only with a dump station unless things have changed.
