winter in St George UT?

Looking for information from those that winter in St George UT. What are the winters like there and how is the economy in that area? TIA
  • Hey, Texan, just look to see if large propane tanks and water hoses are insulated. If so, way too far North!
  • Nope, we're headed to Wellton 4 weeks from yesterday. One of our kids is moving to the St George/Hurricane area next summer and we're just looking at the possibilities for future years. I think the St George area is also very ATV/UTV friendly and that is our primary concern.
  • OP: Did you give up on Welton, AZ? That sounded ideal for you.
  • Stayed there 3 days last spring waiting for the snow to clear on I 80 up north.

From what I saw the economy way hopping - construction was everywhere.
  • Friends of ours were planning on retiring there until the area was discovered and house prices shot up. Their relatives retired there, and wouldn't move anywhere else. I guess it's a 4-wheeeler mecca. I hear the area can get a bit religious for some.
  • Elevation is about 2800 feet which is pretty high for winter over night low temperatures. Sunny days are the norm.
  • Winters are generally quite nice. HIghs in the 60s, 70s even, lows in the 20s in the heart of winter. No idea about the economy, but lots of retirees. Beautiful country, too.
