Wterton/Glacier parks

Johnson's can be hilly, uneven and tight. I would recommend the KOA on the east side; have stayed there 3 times.

LOVE Glacier!

The campground on the hill at St. Marys is Johnsons. We move during the week and arrive in the mornings and have not had problems getting spots with our 32 foot 5er without reservations. We stay at Two Medicine, St Marys, and Apgar in the park. If we want hook ups we stay at Johnsons or a little park in East Glacier on the east side. There are lots of choices on the west side for rv parks.

Took the kids there a few years back, stayed in town at Townsite Campground. Its run by the park service. Really enjoyed the campground and the kids liked the access to the town.

I found Cameron Lake worth the drive. The opposite end of the lake is in the US.

Kids very much enjoyed Red Rock Canyon. Bring towels, swim suits, and shoes you can walk in the water with. Reminded me of the Narrows in Zion, though the walls are not nearly as high.

We were there in late June, right when the mama deer come into town to birth their fawns. Deer everywhere.

As for Glacier, my fav campground is Many Glacier. Its fairly isolated, like two medicine, but the hiking access and views are second to none.

Waterton is a "vacation" "town" inside the park. The town is like any vacation town. Lots of small shops etc. I have never camped there but I think(?) I saw camping in what looked like commercial campgrounds. (Check the Canada forum). If you can camp at Waterton the kids may be happy (more other teenagers) than camping at Glacier.

Remember, you will need passports to return to USA. Edit: Sorry, I only not look to see you are from Canada.

Glacier is for walking. Not a vacation town.

I liked Two medicine cg myself. The are two nice hikes one in the CG and one just outside the CG with takes you up to nice vistas and a field of wildflowers. If your not into wildflowers Pray lake right in the CG is a great place to fish.

If you are going to stay in the park, the only campgrounds that take reservations are St Mary on the east side & Fish Creek on the west. If you arrive early in the day the chances are good you will find a site without reservations.

You can check the "fill" times here once the campgrounds open.

Be sure to take the time to drive out to Polebridge Mercantile on the west side for a sticky bun or cinnamon roll. A great bakery.
