Yosemite Pirep
DW and I just returned from Yosemite. We both were born and raised in CA and this was our first visit to the park. Since we were coming from the Sacramento area, we took 120 east into the park. We chose to stay outside the park and drive in daily. We stayed at the Yosemite Ridge resort. This was a reasonably priced park for the area, $25/night off season and $40/night in season. They provide full hook ups but only have a few spots that can accommodate longer A's. The park is quiet and the owner, Joe, is very accommodating and takes personal care of his guests. The employees are polite and helpful. Their adjacent restaurant was very good BTW. Their internet service is lousy, that is one area they could improve. If you have ATT, cell reception is a no-show. DW had verizon and she got a signal with that service.
The new priest grade going up 120 is a challenge. It's around 6 miles of hair pin turns and switchbacks. You have to take your time - I took most of it at 25-30 mph. There are very few turnouts that can handle a larger moho, and unfortunately on my way down the mountain, all but 1 pull out had a car stopped there preventing me from using the pull out.
We only saw 2 larger class A's in the valley, most of the RVs were shorter Cs and TTs. It would be real easy to make a wrong turn in a large A and get into trouble. There are special routes that the tour buses take and they have dedicated parking. Most of the time we parked our toad and took the free shuttle around the park which gets you to most of the main tourist spots.
Pictures of Yosemite just do not do justice to the beauty of this national treasure. And with the beauty comes crowds. We were there before school is out for the summer. And it was still congested. If you visit, I would suggest getting there in the spring before school is out and the water falls in full force, and try to plan your visit on weekdays.
