Canvas Tire covers

I just bought canvas tire covers (mostly because they were all I could find to cover 14" tires on an Aliner Expedition). Could there be a problem covering the tires during winter snow, such as icing up and the covers sticking to the tires/rims?
  • I have both canvas and vinyl. The canvas ones were purchased from Harbor Freight years ago. Do not know if they still sell them. The vinyl ones were given to me by a friend after he sold his Class C.

The vinyl ones have cracked over the years, but are still useable. The canvas ones have held up well. The canvas ones have a metal ring sewed into them that allows you to spread the cover over the wheel and it clamps to the tire. I like this idea better than the stretch lines the vinyl covers have.

I do not use these covers in the winter because I cover my TT in the winter when I store it.
  • The plastic (vinyl?) covers crack when putting on or taking off in cold. Loose straps get frozen to the ground. I would gladly try canvas ones but haven't seen any. I have one of my father's canvas tarps left and it is way nicer than plastic tarps in every way.
  • If I was worried about the tire freezing to the tire - I would wrap the tire in saran wrap before putting on the cover. But if the canvas is not waterproof I would expect it to be pretty stiff and could be hard to remove.
  • Probably won't hurt a thing. My take on tire covers is that they are primarily protection from harsh, direct, long term sun exposure.

No sun and no real need to cover tires.
