Question

I had my Honda Sei3000 generator stolen hear in Australia, it was used for powering my FW at 120V when not on grid. As it was 3000W 120V ?A. What will the difference be regarding the power supply be if I use a 3000W 240V generator going true my step down transformer ?

half the voltage doubles the amps.

3000 watts is 3000 Watts. Make sure your step down is rated for at least as many volt-amps ... 3kva transformer for example.

V times A = watt sowatts divided by volts equals amps 3000 divided by 120 = 25 amps3000 divided by 240 = 12.5 amps What your step down transformer will do is the next question

Ok that is what I was thinking as I am learning more about electrical, I previously had another FW and the 2700W 240V generator was not large enough to run microwave efficiently so had to get larger 5000W. So it appears my best bet will be to bye a new 3000 W 120V generator and have it shipped to Australia. Thanks

You are also likely to get 50 Hz instead of 60 Hz if you purchase a local generator. This isn't usually a problem for most things, but the exception is AC motors. Your air conditioner may not like it.
