led lighting

I know this topic has been discussed but my question is, When mounting the strip lighting on the trailer itself where are you getting the 12 volts from/

On trailers with electric power awnings does anyone know if the bracket mounted to the trailer with the wire run down inside if the piece that covers the wire is removeable. to acess the holw to run the power cable inside
  • My white box hangs just under the end of the awning arm. I would need to plug it in once I am setting up and didn't really want to leave it mounted all the time. It doesn't look very watertight to me but will only take me a few seconds to hook up.
  • The white box that has the eye for the remote where did everyone mount this at.
  • To answer your question about the plastic insert in the power awning..yes it is removable, it just pops in or out. I bought a RGB 8ft extension cord and ran it down the awning arm under the plastic inserts.
  • the awning wire is powered only while being used...chances are you will not be able to run wire with that cable. I drilled a small hole thru the wall and put the control on top of a cabinet and got 12 volts from the light mounted under the cabinet
  • I have my lights my question now is can i just peel the double sided tape and mount on trailer or should i clean the trailer with something specific?
  • I understand all that. My queation is the insert on the brackets that hide the wire for power awnings is it removeable
  • I would suggest going to Home Depot or other hardware stores and looking for 18 gauge two wire thermostat wires. It comes in spools up to 250' long, and will work well for your application. If you only need about 20' of wire, check to see if you can buy something in a smaller spool.

Then install a switch that is where you want it. Bring in power from another light, and to the switch, then to the light strip with the new wire. At the start of the light switch, hook up your red and white wires to the slight strip. If it fails to light, check for 12 volt power, and reverse the two wires if required, it might be working in the reverse polarity.

You can search for the light strips here. AliExpress.com Search 5050 light strip. I also found some 5050 24 LED panels at the same place, $2 each when you buy 25 at a time. This was plenty to convert all my normally used light fixtures, and the porch light - I used 4 panels there, and have a super bright light that only uses 6 watts!
