Magenetic Screen Door Mod

This is more of a question on how it was done. I did a search and couldn't find anything similar that was done. Here is a video of what this guy did for his screen door.

Screen door mod

My question is how did he attach the magnete to the door and what did he use for the magnets to attach when the door was closed?

If you pause the video and make it full screen it looks like he notched the metal door frame so the magnets are attached to the wood frame and flush with the metal frame which would give one a better bug seal.

I'm with the it's neat but why crowd. I added the plastic stick through the slider so all I have to do is pull up on the stick to release the screen latch.
2015 Eclipse Iconic Toy Hauler made by Eclipse Manufacturing which is a pile of junk. If you want to know more just ask and I'll tell you about cracked frames, loose tin, walls falling off, bad holding tanks and very poor customer service.

My screen door is aluminum therefore I will need a ferrous mating surface. I guess double sided tape and a small metal button should work.

Ah, missed that. I guess using two one on each side?
Since he is using multiple magnets, a single magnet string would be enough to hold a light, stainless steel door. No need to have a pair mating together. These Neodymium magnets are very strong. I use them for other purposes, not my entry doors, because my original latches are still working.
The strength of the magnets are rated in a scale from N1->N52, N52 being the strongest. For this door project, a 1/2"D x 1/8"T N46 would be adequate. There are also available, self adhesive magnetic strips encased in plastic. Those might afford a better bug-seal than individual magnets.

Magnets won't keep grandkids from pushing screen door open then falling down the steps, my modified window lock does.

Attach cheap white window lock to screen door with an 1/8" shim on inside of door, reach thru plastic slider to open. Works perfect.

Keeps 11 month old safe and secure.

Some sort of glue would have to be used. Epoxy I'd think. You can get really strong magnets at Home Depot but I don't see the point. The factory screen door latch seems to work fine.

Note that the magnets work great to find studs in drywall in your house.

Right on the page of the site above.

Each powerful rare-earth magnet has a high-tack peel-and-stick backing that adheres to any clean, dry surface. While the magnets are remarkably strong, the direct-pull resistance of the adhesive is even stronger; a tool stuck to the magnet will release before the magnet can be pulled from the wall.
