Replacing TV

Finally getting around to upgrading the main television from the heavy anchor dinosaur tv that is in the unit to a flat screen. However, I notice that the plug for the house speakers is a typical phono plug, like headphones, where my only sound output is the more up to date component outputs on the flat screen. Can anyone point me to a good adapter that will be sure to work with a female phono plug to the 2 coloured audio male plugs to plug into the back of the new one? Nothing bothers more than trying 2 or 3 different types before finding one that works.

Thanks

Do uou have a built in dvd/cd/radio unit? If so I think those rca connections are from the built in dvd player and would be inputs to the tv

Ps: compnent (red, blu, green) is video only audio

Maybe something like this, https://www.bestbuybusiness.com/bbfb/en/US/adirect/bestbuy?cmd=catProductDetail&showAddButton=true&p... ? We use this unit and it works well. Chuck

It seems as you have a 3.5mm stereo headphone male jack coming from the speakers. If you have a female headphone jack on the new TV, plug it into that. The "y" adaptor linked to above will work if you have speaker "out" jacks on the new TV. The TV will do the amplifying. "Line out" audio jacks will not work, as others have noted.

That will work to physically connect the things together, if I'm understanding what you have properly. Whether or not you'd get sound out of the speakers depends on where the other end of the cable with the headphone plug goes.

If it goes to a radio or other unit with an amplifier, then you should be good to go.

If it is directly connected to the speakers, then you'll need some amplifier to drive the speakers; the new TV's RCA output won't do that. Something like this little unit would probably work nicely and could be directly powered your 12V power system and not break the bank. (The output ratings of this, and unfortunately many, cheap amplifiers are wildly optimistic. It still should work OK for this use.)

Before buying anything, I would probably see if the speakers built into the new TV are adequate for your needs. If so, using them is the simplest and cheapest route of all.

If you have ONE headphone style plug that connects both your speakers, the adaptor you found will work. If you have one plug for each speaker, then it will not help.

If needed, you can find RCA plugs that you can attach to bare wires after cutting off the old headphone style connecters.

most flat screen TV's have there own speakers... and ONLY 10 watt per channel.

and yes.. RCA are audio out....not Line out..

but most people install a Sound Bar for there Flat Screen TV...
as most Flat Screen and Sound Bar use Fiber Optic cables.

Is there an amplifier of some sort involved here? Those RCA audio jacks are line level outputs and won't power speakers directly.

Also: BTW/FYI Component output jacks also use RCA type plugs but carry only video feed.

There was nothing else connected to the TV other than this headphone jack and the coax cable for the tv signal, so I don't think so.

There are 3 different sets of coloured outputs on the new flat screen, but I spotted one set where there are only 2 audio outputs with no corresponding video output.

Is there a volume control somewhere outside of the TV for the speakers? The line level outputs will only work through an audio amplifier...

Not that I can see on this brick.

The TV has RCA plugs... Try Ebay for an adapter.

The headphone type jack. I need a cable with the one female end that this headphone jack will plug into and the 2 coloured ends that will plug into the tv.

Describe what you have for the speaker's connection, please. What is on the end of the wires from the speakers?
