Sewer Hose Storage Project - Another Fence Post Mod - Pics

Thanks to all the posts on this forum showing sewer hose storage ideas using a fence post, I built mine today. You will see in the pics that I decided to use rivets for most all fastener requirements. By strategically placing the fittings and cutting a few notches, I was able to put the rivet heads to the outside for a clean look. I will install on the TT this Friday and will add more pics then.

How is everyone attaching the post cover under their trailer?

Here is how I did it. I made three carriers-one for myself and one for each of my sons. I used strapping material I purchased at Home Depot. The brackets are bolted into the bottom of the trailer frame.

I know this is an old thread but I also couldn't find the 5" fence post sleeve at Lowe's or HomeDepot. I found it at a ranch supply store. Thanks for sharing pics of the project. I made mine last week.

Great idea!

Did you order end caps, too?
When I picked up my 5x5 sleeve, Home Depot didn't have the 5x5 caps. Had to order them.

So I ran over to Lowes to get materials to build this. I found the gutter stuff but the fence post isn't big enough to house the gutter. The staff dug through everything but coouldn't find any plastic fence posts that were big enough to take a gutter. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I don't think Lowe's carries the 5x5 cover. Home Depot has the cover, HERE. Home Depot doesn't stock the symetrical gutter that's used for a tray. Gotta get the gutter at Lowe's.

What a challenge to find the fence post. Yup, Lowes discontinued carrying the 5" post sleeves. They said no one was buying them, too much slack in the sleeves to work well on fence posts; that's what they said. BUT...the company still makes them and so Lowes ordered one for me; four to six week delivery time (to Anchorage, AK). At least I can still get one, eventually.

I guess I better go ahead and buy the gutter before Lowes stops carrying them too!

I just bought the 5x5 post cover and gutter at my Lowes last night. It must be a regional thing.

When drilling holes in the tube, keep the holes 1/8" in diameter and only drill on the corners and end caps, that way the Stinky Slinky won't have a burrs to rub on etc and tear things up.

By using the 1/8" drill size, keeps the "Stingers" out etc.

Nice idea! I have seen other threads about this and they posted about drilling holes to let the water drain and the hose to dry out. My question would be. Should I be worried about wasps or bees going in and making a nest in the tube?

I have had this mod on my trailers for the past 6 or 7 years. I drilled holes in the tube for drainage and to help things dry out and have never had a single problem with wasps or insects of any kind making a home in there.

I'm on my second sewer hos holder. First was on my 2003 Cardinal.

Second is on my 2013 Cedar Creek.

Both trays were sealed at the ends. After flushing hose with clean water and returning Rhinoflex hose to it's shortest position I give it a couple of taps on the ground. The little bit of moisture left in the hose has never caused a smell or any other problem problem.

IIRR,

I the fence post is 5" square, the type that gose over a standard 4" square wooden fence post, standard gutter 3/4" will fit inside this 5" plastic fence post.
