Table/bed modification suggestion

I don't know if any of you have had the issue I had with my table that doubles as a bed. I had slept on mine with my dogs without issue until my nephew, who is rather heavy, plopped down on the table bed and the table top bbroke.I was able to save the table top and reinforce it to prevent another failure. The cause imho was no support from the legs to the floor. The table top had to support all the weight and finally couldn't.My advice is to have support of some kind from lowest point to floor. I believe if I had done this to mine the table wouldn't have broke.

A shorter section of the same pipe used for the leg will support the center as well. And yeah, pressboard tables are garbage: use plywood.

You could also add angle iron (or aluminum) along the bottom length of the table to increase it's rigidity (rounded at each end to prevent scratching your legs).

The real issue is the press board they use for the tables. We use our table outside and low and behold, it got wet, swelled up and was ruined.

Bottom line is that I had a friend make me a new one out of cedar and mounted the stiff brackets under it. Not only is my new table far stronger and doesn't flex when sitting on it, it's about 1/3 lighter.
