Wall mount tv?

Has anyone tried mounting a TV on a wall in there camper? Any special mods? Looking to mount a 29 inch TV.

On my old trailer, I used a mount like RoyB's above, ie, the swing out type. Perfectly suited for the size of TV you're considering. I was able to find a stud in the wall to mount it too. Very simple.

Also, all the mounts and TVs I have seen use the universal type of plate for the back of the TV that has several sets of holes. Just pick the set of holes that lines up with your TV. The screws for the back of the TV are metric BTW, 4 or 5mm if I recall. I needed some longer ones for my TV so I picked them up at Lowes in their slide out drawers with all the specialty fasteners.
  • When I mounted our second Tv into the bedroom we had the wall marked where to install it. I pinched about a three foot piece of double sided velcro behind the Tv mount. When we are ready to travel I snug the Tv up to the wall using bits of foam to take out any movement. Has worked very well for the past two years.

Like mentioned above This is photo of the factory marked area to mount a TV to the wall. They have already placed a back board behind the thin wall to safely hold up your TV SET. I usually see these markings on the bedroom wall.

  • Mine had a spot marked on the wall with a sticker for just that application as noted before just make sure not to use long screws.

What one usually does is put up a 1-inch or 3/4-inch solid backing board first and secure to the thin trailer walls with MOLLY BOLTs. These bolts spread out behind the wall and spreads the weight over a larger area. Using regular screws will just pull out of the thin walls dropping the TV to the floor. The molly bolts are great as they stay in place after you mount them to the wall. The wing bolt type will drop the wing section behind the wall if you remove the mounting bolt.

If you use these bolts in the four corners of a larger flat board then it really spreads out the weight to hold rather large items.

This back board will hold up the LCD TV monitors real good. You can paint the back board to suit your interior decor.

You might want to use a smaller back board like shown in the photo...

You can pick up the swinging arms and supports from WALMART or LOWES in the TV Sections. Most of them will fit the mounting hole arrangement behind the TV sets.

I have mounted alot of heavy things the thin RV walls over the years by using the back plate idea going on the wall first. Then you can use regular wood type screws to mount your swing arm to the back board..

  • Mounted a 24 inch in the bedroom. Fortunately it was on a closet wall so I was able to put 3/4 inch plywood behind it for strength. Got the articulating wall mount from WalMart on-line for $18.
  • I have 3 TVs hung from walls in my camper. All hung from the factory- but basically:
    1) See if your camper has backers already installed for TV hanging
    2) If not, see about mounting a piece of wood to spread the load
    3) Make sure you hit studs
    4) Make sure your screws aren't so long as to go the whole way through :o
