Water transfer pump

I am looking for some feed back on my idea for filling the fresh water tank. Sometimes when we are boon docking we need to top up the fresh water tank and we haul it in water cooler jugs. To speed up the process I was thinking of purchasing a cheap fresh water pump and wiring clips to attach to the RV battery for a 12 volt power source. Hook up FW hoses to the inlet and run another to the FW tank and pump away. It seems like a great idea for me but wanted to see what others.

We use a hose with a ball built in it to siphon the water out of a container into the fresh water tank when we are boondocking. It is about 5' long and you simply move it up and down in the container until water starts to flow and it will run until the end of the hose is above the water. Real simple and CHEAP. I gave $5.00 for mine down here at Lowes. Home Depot also carries them. Maybe Canadian Tire or the outfit that sponsors the CFL, I can't remember their name would have them. They usually have them hanging from a shelf support along an aisle.

I have a 15 gallon plastic barrel in the truck bed. The old HTT was low enough that it would gravity feed into the FW tank. The new TT sits higher and since I have a HF pump from another project that's what I'm going to use.

Some people from the pop-up forum use a hand powered boat bilge pump.

'Course I could drain the barrel into a 6-gallon Aquatainer then lift it to fill the TT tank. But what fun is that?

When I winterize I only put the pink stuff through my pump and blow down the rest with air.

To accomplish this I added a 3 way valve to the pump suction and another to the discharge.

If I want to add water to the tank from some sort of reservoir (gerry jug, bladder tank etc.) I would run a suction hose from the pump suction 3 way, to that and attach a discharge hose that is plumbed into the tank suction, to the pump discharge 3 way. I've placed a remote switch at the pump to control it from there if the main pump switch is on.

Water will be sucked from the reservoir & discharged into the RV storage tank.

It won't be fast but it will git'er done!

This is what I use. I actually have two of them, one for water and another for the two 5 gallon spare diesel fuel cans I carry for emergencies in the back of the truck...

Three power option submersible pump

Has several 12v power options (self contained battery, 12 volt plug and 12 volt clip on cables), submersible pump head, fast pumping, carry case. Lots of different options out there, but, I chose this one.

haul the water in a large container like those orange, cylindrical jobbies they use at construction sites, or as large a tank as you want to handle, then just drop in a cheap boat bilge pump and pump it in. I used one to pump in my antifreeze. a bilge pump will pump a lot faster than that one linked to that I use to fill up my kero-sun heaters.

If you like boon docking that much. Maybe get a larger tank 50g or so that will fit in the back of the TV. Put a 12vlt sureflow pump on it wire it's to the TV how ever you want. Electric plug, alligator clip, ect. Then just fill the fresh tank when needed from the TV. Stop having to haul those coolers.

That is genius and the reason why I joined this forum. My 5th wheel doesn't have that option but I planned on putting a three way valve so it would be a little more convenient to winterize it. All i need to do is carry a short hose to throw in the water jug. Thanks for the idea, that is a great idea.

Dunno what you have so I'll toss this one out from a thread a long time ago.

If you have an anti-freeze position where the pump draws from the 1gal containers, drop that siphon into the potable water tank.

I'm sure there are other ways, but next I go to the outside shower with a hose jumper built to go from the outside shower faucet and into the street fresh tank fill.

Start pump and open the faucet. Takes me around 2 mins to drain a 7gal portable potable jug.
