17.5 tire question

I just ordered a set of 17.5 wheels, but I am not sure which size tires to get. The 215 75's or the 235 75's. Either size appears to be slightly larger or smaller than my current 235 80 16's. Is one size better than the other and I was hoping to keep my current size spare to use in a pinch.

we went with the 215's. they were tenths of an inch larger than our original 16 inch tires. the 235's should work with most, but they are more expensive and have a 6000# rating per tire, the 215's have around a 4800# rating per tire.

this was the best upgrade we have done to our raptor

I got aluminum hispec wheels from e-bay for $205 each with free shipping. Center caps and lug nuts included. That was the best price I could find.
It does seem to be a higher number of tires available in the 215 size. When I checked either the 215 or the 235 were about 2% different in size smaller or larger than my current 16's

215/75. About to do the same conversion. I'm not sure how many 235/75s you can find but I was told 215/75 is a common trailer tire and have some good tires to select from.

Also, since the 235/75R17.5 tires are about .75" larger diameter that your STs, you'd have .75" less clearance between them. Lack of clearance between tires is one reason I'm not going to LT tires.

I intend to use my 235/80R16s as a spare too, but hopefully my roadside service would be able to help me so I wouldn't hafta limp along with them.

Where did you get your wheels?
