50 amp generator

Nothing to do with luck they are out ther but are heavy and expensive.

Hmmm, well I guess I am just out of luck. My main concern is having to dry camp while on the road and be able to power both a/c units and lights.

Look into the turbine powered generators. You definitely meet the size requirements.

I will probably stick with 6500 LP. I figure I could keep a bottle in my truck tool box for a backup if we were to boondocks much. Sounds like a much more convenient and stable fuel system.

LP means you don't have another fuel to carry and protect.

I bought a used Onon 7000 gas gen and have just converted it to propane (simple kit). I didn't want to carry gas cans too..

the purpose of the gen for us is that if we are away for the day and lose power, then gen can come on and keep the A/C running for our animals. in Texas at 100 out, it doesn't take long to turn into an oven.

it also opens a few other choices we wanted to do, tailgate at some Michigan football games, and stop overnight on long drives where there is no power.

If I had to think ahead and put the gas tank outside everytime I thought the gen might need to be started, ugh..
you can't/shouldn't run a gas gen with a non-dedicated tank in the same enclosure as the gen. (front bay), so you would have to put it somewhere else.

I am going to use the Onan EC-30W controller, as it can start the gen on low voltage, heat temp... and can also prevent gen start during quiet times. My Alpine was not gen ready, but even if it was, I would use the same controller, as the stock ones are pretty simple pushbuttons (on/off, with maybe hour meter)

Diesel will be heavier, and more of a low rumble VS higher pitch on the gas units, the most fuel efficient, if there is water in the fuel, you will get stuff growing on the bottom of the fuel tank, Fuel is not available *everywhere*, can be refueled out of gas cans or in bed fuel tanks. The propane tends to suck tanks dry, the least efficient of the bunch - but can last more or less forever in the tanks without going bad, and is the cleanest burning (least buildup of anything in the engine). Gas, if left alone goes bad in carbs and fuel lines, etc, readily available anywhere, can be refueled out of gas cans or in bed fuel tanks. Toyhaulers (usually) have a fuel station for the toys, this can also refuel the genset if needed.

To pull that big of a gen it will take a minimum of a 18hp engine. Those size engines will not be light. Think V-twin Kolher in a big z-turn lawn mower.
