5th Wheel hitch suggestions

We have had a bumper pull 36' for the last eight years. After a 6,000 mile road trip I hit the tree at the end of my driveway with the trailer and it was totaled. Now we are purchasing a Genesis Supreme 37GS 5th wheel. The previous own switched out the king pin box with a goose neck. From reading articles I am planning on going back to the king pin hitch. I am curious if the air bag and shock assembly type king pin box is worth the cost. Having never pulled a 5th wheel I have no experience. I also plan on purchasing a Curt hitch for the truck that floats in all directions but is not a slider. I have an 8 foot bed. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm also looking for a hitch for a short bed Ram 3500, so it needs to be a slider. I want to try to keep it simple if possible, so not interested in air ride hitches.

My Momentum Toy Hauler has a GVWR of 16,888 lbs.

I've been looking at:

Pullrite 18K SuperGlide $2225
Pullrite 24K SuperGlide ?
Demco 21K AutoSlide $2200
Curt Q20 Slider $1194
Curt Q24 Slider $1331

Any recommendation on those hitches, or others?

Yes that clearance issue I am sure would bite me in the butt at some point. Also I think it looks like a pain hooking it up and taking it off. I watched the previous owner unhook at the house and it was two guys doing it and it seemed like a lot but I don't think I need any help unhooking.

I will say so far just reading the instructions for the bed rail installation and watching the video is night a day. The video sure makes it seem so much easier. I guess we will find out about it today.

the video of this hitch in action sure looks like its going to scrape the box sides of his truck. https://youtu.be/terE7F3-mf0

Well I am glad they reached out to you with an option before you had to take further measures. We will take ours on the road for the first time Tuesday and are going to try the Reese Goosebox that is currently on the trailer. We are only camping two nights and will get a chance to see if everything works then.

i'm sure you will enjoy the camping trip. i hope all goes well! there are some good reviews on the reese goosebox online. https://youtu.be/5c5O4DQm2-Q

ironically taylor ( branch manager as far as i know) called me today to let me know the engineers at genesis decided on 30 gal black tank that will fit. like i told them and they already know..... the tank can be 4" deeper as well as up to 2m longer but easily twice as wide. apperantly they finally figured that out. after what i have experienced, i'll believe it when i have the tank.

No worries!! So far I keep looking at the unit and don't see anything wrong and everything seems to work. I am going to check the ramp out carefully when the wind and rain is not blowing sideways. When I looked up complaints about Genesis I only found two from 2016 units all related to flooring. I hope sine your unit seems to be a newer model they will get it figured out and help you out. If you are still having problems, from what I read, filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I saw the company president got involved quickly and fixed the problem. I know, it should not come to this but.

Good luck.

at this point i have my doubts that this will get resolved quietly lol i hope it does and i know i will have to install the tank myself or pay someone out of my pocket. i'll probably look at stw or sundowner next time. i do like a few of the attitude models as well.

WOW! I hope I have more luck than you. We purchased a used unit and hopefully the previous owner ran into all the problems. Ours is a big box of air but with two kids and 4 quads and from time to time the side by side it should all fit.

I did have a bit better luck with service from Genesis so far. The previous owner had a very nice Reese goose box with all the buzzers and bells put on the unit and believe I prefer a king pin box and needed to know what model number was stock on the unit. I sent an email to Genesis and less than one hour later an engineer from Genesis called me to give me all the information on the unit.

Thank you for the information. I am always interested to see what someone else has to deal with.

i hope it is a perfect unit for you, turly do. i just won't buy another after my experience. also they do not fully weld the ramps either so they bent. they only weld 3 out or 4 sides, i checked with 4 other owners, there all like that and they had there's welded. i will modify mine and plate them so it's never an issue again. i bought mine in jan 2020 and it's a 2021 on the title. now that was pre chinese flu so i cannot imagine the qc issues now! so if you looked at the unit in the link then you understand what i mean by my statement of.... if you cannot built a tent then you shouldn't be building houses! i just called the dealer ship and of course the last guy i was dealing with quit so again i am starting with a new guy. i still find it amazing that even though they advertised 32 gal tanks they claim they cannot find the p/n# or the saleman from rowley white rv is lying to me. the very fact that i know they were offered i tend to believe the dealership but yes i know.

dsrace I see you have a 2021 Genesis Supreme. We are purchasing a 2018 Genesis Supreme 37GS. Just curious what drew you to the Genesis line? The unit we looked at has an open floor plan so we can fit all our toys in and plenty of room when we ski camp.

after 9 years of pulling a fiver around i wanted something smaller that didn't catch wind like the 295 wolf pack. i couldn't find anything built in indiana with a even half way decent ccc. i have a 7100ccc with current unit. i also decided i wanted something with the least amount of camper for low maintenance, that didn't hold true. genesis offered a unique option that caught my attention. for 1 person its fantastic, for i and my wife it can be a little cramped a time or two but def doable. some may be able to handle more people in that model but i would loose it! i will buy another fifthwheel toyhauler down the road after i buy a class 8 single axle or a class 6 to pull it. i want stable and over powered for windy conditions across 3 state lines.

so as far as genesis goes...... i am in no way impressed with there lack of quality! i have had to fix more issues in 1 year than i did on my forest river 295 wp in 9 years. 3 water fittings were bad the first day i hooked water to it. dealer sinterized it for me, sat all winter, went to flush lines and water ran everwhere! there furniture is ****, there customer service is almost non existent. when i say almost non existent i mean it's almost been one year and i still don't have the correct black water tank. they claim they cannot find the correct part # but there still looking. there web site stated 32 gal black tanks, the rv salesman called to inquire about a bigger tank but 32 was it, unit showed up with a 15 gal. not sure how the part number is gone. saleman said we'll get a new one ordered. that was rowley white rv, salesman zac march 16th and i still have the text messages to prove this. i have personally called and left 5 messages ( with genesis) to ask about my tank and never get a call back. the have since changed there web site to 15 gallons an all overnighter models. i have a screen shot on a hard drive of the site before the change when i purchased. i can say i won't buy another one of there products. i say that due to lack of customer service as well as issues. lets be honest...... if you cannot build a tent you have no buisness building a house!! https://genesissupremerv.com/Overnighter
