I just bought the same truck only a GMC with the 6.0 engine, either way the payload is rated the same at 3066. The payload does go up to 4190 with standard box on the 3500 HD.
OP said his payload is 2706#. I suspect he has 2WD as I looked at a 2014 4x4 with 10K GVWR and it only had 2400# of payload. Which meant the truck weighed 1100# more than my '05!:E
No wonder the Big 3 are trying to lose some weight!
