5th Wheel Storage Question

While the trailer is sitting in an outdoor RV storage lot, should I extend the stabilizers or should I leave them up? I'm afraid of high winds damaging the stabilizers. Or am I just being overly cautious?
  • We store ours at the house, and we do level it, side to side and back to back, as is helps with run off of rain, etc. We do not, however, drop the rear stabilizers. No need, IMO, as we are not in it and the slides are not out.
  • Don't see a need for stabilizers while in storage. I keep them up so critters have two less things they can climb up during the winter.
  • I always park mine with the levelers down. I think the entire structure of the coach is aided by being level and it takes the weight off the tires. It is easy to do on my coach though with the Big Foot levelers so I know that makes a difference also.
  • I have been concerned about storage also but I think if the wind is that strong be sure its insured because the stabilizers wont matter.
  • ....and then there is the issue of a tire going flat. With stabs down there is a chance that the frame could get twisted/tweaked slightly.

We never store our trailer with the stabs. down. No advantage or need to do so.
  • I've never put down my rear stabilizers when in storage, just don't see the need. If the wind is strong enough to damage the stabilizers, then the stabilizers would probably be the least of your worries. :)

I have never extended the stabilizers when stored or even when the trailer is at the house. I'm not living it at those times so no need to stabilize.
