5th wheel teething problems? Or junk?

We bought a 2014 Keystone Avalanche brand new and have nothing but problems, all covered under warranty. Our trip over Memorial day weekend may have been the last straw. When we arrived at the campground the escape window was missing. Not broken, gone. I remember latching it after the last use as it was about to rain. The dealer said Keystones have had that happen before, but won't admit the blame. So counting back the few trips we've had, and what's broken or fallen off, we got to thinking if that was normal with a new RV. Five of the last six trips we have arrived with major damage at the campground. Thank goodness there was a campground reviewer at the campground last weekend to lend me a ladder to cover the hole in my wall! He told me he had issues with his big class A until they got them all sorted out. Now we're wondering whether to trade it in or ride this mess out.

Wow! I don't blame you for being upset!

The only new camper I've ever bought was our current one (now for sale). We bought it in 2006 -- a cheap one because our old one broke down during a trip and we didn't want to wait 3 days for the repair. It's a small Puma. It didn't start well, as we had a blowout within 500 miles. Replaced all the tires. The only problems since then were the sink drains. I had to tighten them by hand when they started leaking, then apparently tightened one too tight and it broke. Took me 5 minutes to replace it. That's it. Nine years. Wanna buy it? 😉

I'd still bet you've worked through most of the problems you'll have in the first 5 years. I hope so! Good luck!!

Ya'll scare me, I have a 2003 Challenger that has not had any issues but I keep thinking it is going to explode pulling out of the driveway based on what I read here...

It takes about a year to break them in and work out the bugs :B Then they just start to nickle and dime you the rest of your life.

But the same thing happens at the stick and brick house also and it don't even move anywhere.

These things have to endure our poor roads in the USA, winter storage, camping at a salty beach, and just plain old sunlight baking em.
Hey cr*p happens, I'm sure your about to get over the teething age. Now just wait till its a teenager :W Now the fun begins.
And I will mention the more goodies you have, the more things can go wrong :B

Trade for another new one and your problems will start all over. Keep fixing them and in a few years you will have a good one.

Thanks all. I'm not ready to sue anyone... But let me see if I can recall all the issues. The big one was the couch/kitchen slide hanging up on retraction. My wife didn't see the problem until it was too late. It bent the heck out of the slide, but once again it was common with Keystone's they said. Took six weeks to fix. Pendent light screw came out and glass lamp shade shattered, bedroom door fell apart and fell off ( I fixed that myself as it was a lack of glue! ), overhead cabinet floors falling off, can light lens fall off, wood slat blinds falling apart, dinette table finish oxidizing and turning white in spots, TV has white spots in the center of the screen, window blowing out, rear bumper caps falling off ( I drilled and pinned the caps and still lost one last weekend ), etc, etc.

I know half of it sounds like minor stuff, but you just get fed up with it every time you tow it somewhere.

I think all rv's have problems. I have a 10 year old Keystone Challenger and because of the name my brother always gives me******because of the Challenger Shuttle that blew up and always having some kind of problem when we go out. Last big issue was the kitchen overhead cabinets that were pulling away from the wall and to get home had to use a board to support them so they would not fall down. I got home and had to rescrew them back in at different spots for screws to hold. I now leave the support board in for traveling. I would give it a little more time before getting rid of it if it is just small problems and you really like it. There is always going to be problems they are a earthquake on wheels.

This is such an old problem with those windows - happened to our TT when it was new. It's hard to imagine they haven't redesigned it by now.

The last thing I would do is give out unsolicited lawyer information.

Interesting, just the other day I got a letter in the mail from an attorney's office about resolving issues related to Rvs.

OP, PM me and I'll give you the attorney's information if you want.

I would not let the missing window be the last straw. Surprisingly the windows come open seemingly on their own and blow out.
Unfortunately you were not the first and will not be the last to experience the disappearing window trick.

Hard to say without knowing how serious the problems were. All of them have some issues, that goes without saying. Just bouncing down the road will cause some problems.

Enumerate the problems and you'll likely get some decent opinions, and some not so decent too. 🙂
