At 6 3/4 bed length, you obviously have a Ford. It is really not the bed length itself, but rather the distance from the rear axle center, to the rear of cab. In this regard GM has always had the longest distance of approximately 42 inches, likely not needing a slider. Then comes Ford at around 41"s, which is what I have, and never used a slider. The Ram has the shortest distance, which may/may not need a slider, depending on FW front, and aware driver.
The normal hitch install, should put the pin at axle center, to several inches ahead of axle center which is best. I am at 40"s, or 1" ahead of axle center with my pin, and it works great for me.
