6 Volt Battery Charger

I made the move to 6 volt batteries this summer and I'm now in need of a good charger to keep them up over the winter.
Has anyone used the Deltran 3 amp Battery Tender from Costco for $39.00? The reviews are strong but I would appreciate any advice from the forum.
Thanks...Tony
  • Why?
Two 6Vs are nothing more than half of a 12V. Connect them like you do on your trailer and use a standsrd 12V battery charger.

  • Ive been using the 1.25a deltran battery tender on my twin 6v batts for about 10 years. Like stated above connect them as a 12v batt just like in the rv and charge as required. Oh yeah, don't forget to check fluid levels every month or two.
  • The Deltran is a both a 6v and 12v. charger. Just hook it up as a 12v(1 lead to each battery with batteries wired in series.) They work great and that is a pretty good price from Costco. Have one on trailer and TV.
For $5 more I like this 1.25 amp

  • If you are disconnecting for the winter from your batteries, it will not matter whether you have the sixes connected in series but disconnected from one end. Lift off one end, make sure they are charged, and leave them for a couple of months, then charge, then leave again. Before long, it's spring again.
  • Thanks for the responses. Yes I know I can use my old 12 volt charger to charge the 6 volt batteries in series. I just want the flexibility of being able to charge a 6 volt battery separate if needed or in tandem.
I was really just looking for the actual experience anyone had with the "Deltran 3 amp Battery Tender".
    Thanks
