Actual Exterior Length and Feedback on 4 Fivers

Hello Forum,

We are looking to make our next Fiver purchase and would like input (likes/dislikes) and actual exterior lengths from current owners for our top prospects. They are:

Heartland Big Horn 3010RE
Keystone Alpine 3010RE
Evergreen Bay Hill 310
Keystone Avalanche 295

We haven't personally seen any of these trailers, but based on other models we have seen these are our top prospects. The brochures for each also say they are under 35 feet in length, but I suspect that is incorrect based on other measurements we have made on other models. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

Why don't you trust the brochures?

Have you searched the WEB to see if other listing a have different length. is 35' the absolute max length you want to go.
  • I can't respond to the actual exterior lengthy on that model of Bighorn because we have a 3055RL - ours is 35'5" exterior front to end. As for likes - solid. Luxurious residential amenities. We love our floor plan. We're able to get to all appliances in the kitchen, access the kitchen table to sit down, access the bathroom and the bed, all with the slides in. We often stop en route and get in our unit to eat or sleep. Once while camped at a state park, a terrible wind storm came up, we had to bring all our slides in but we were able to ride out the storm while playing cards at the kitchen table and eat. In our previous units, we couldn't have done this. We bought ours new August of 2010, it was a 2011. So far no issues to date. We've maintain both the interior and exterior. We love the fireplace and use it when we have hookups. Our unit has a desk, which DH uses for computer work. Overall, the quality is outstanding and it's comfortable. Things I don't like - our sleeper sofa is on the side opposite the fireplace. When it's opened up for guests, it blocks entry into the living area forcing us to lift a leg to get past it. A rear sofa sleeper would've been better. This is just the right length for us. Enjoy picking yours out.

Yes 35' is the length we want to go so it will fit with some room behind in our garage (had a 38' toy hauler and wasn't much room behind). We have measured numerous trailers that say they are under 35' and none have been close. The Bay Hill 295 was closest to published length (only 6" longer). Others, like the Big Country 3070 was almost 2' longer than published length. This is why I would like to have actual lengths from the owners who have them. Don't want to get my hopes up on them and then have it be too long. We will be going to the Oklahoma City RV Show this week so hopefully those will be there.

We had a 2009 Big Horn 3400RE and we liked it a lot (although its published length was around 34'6", but actual length was 38'). Thought we wanted to go the Toy Hauler route, but that was a mistake and regretted it. So we sold it last November and that is why we are in our quest for the under 35' Fiver. If the Big Horn 3010 measures anything like the Big Country it will be to long. Not sure how companies measure there rigs because it sure isn't on the outside.
  • supposedly it is bumper to pin, but who knows from company to company or day to day.

I consistently found that brochures under report length by as much as 2'. The problem is- what is included in the length? Does it include the bumper? Does it include the spare tire? Is it just the pin? Or is the most forward point of the nose?

This is the only way short of measuring them yourself. (Or asking here- but people go off on tangents like this. :))

When I was shopping, I had a hard 40' limit due to my storage lot. I ended up contacting many manufacturers to get actual lengths. Most were very helpful.
  • one of the web sites I browsed looking for this stuff defined overall length as from the rear bumper to the ball or 5er mount and did not include a rear ladder if present. that is sort of definitive IMHO.
