add on screen rooms

looking to put carefree room on my bighorn fifth wheel awning. Has anyone done this and what type did you use Buena Vista or Vactioner from carefree.
  • Manual or electric awning? We bought a screen room from PPL for our 08 Montana 5er with electric awning. Sales person on the phone said it would work. Got it and it will not work with an electric awning. The manual awning has the ability adjust height the height and angle of the arms. Electric does not. PPL took it back with no issues.
  • Everyone that I saw buying one of those and installing it at a seasonal park I was at for years, quit using it after about a year and went to a freestanding screen room. They just got tired of opening and closing a zipper to go in and out of the trailer. Just something to think about...

And the fact that when a storm comes up you have to be really speedy to get an add on screen room down so it doesn't cause damage to your RV.
  • What type of add a room did you purchase from PPL. We have dometic electric awning.
  • I actually seen a pic of one on the ramp of a toyhauler which I thought was a cool idea. Never have used one though, the storm thing would have me worried.
  • I have a travel trailer but I thought I would offer my opinion.
I have a Dometic power awning that has the ability to tilt on either side or both. I bought the Carefree Vacation'r and it works great with my power awning. Storms have not been a concern for me because it actually helps secure the awning down. The awning can still "auto dump" in the rain if needed.

I also built a sliding screen door to replace the zip up screen door. You just pull the screen from the magnetic latch and it rolls to the side like a window shade. I made it out of a couple 2x3's and the roll up screen.

I only use the awning room for longer trips due to my 20-30 minute set up time. I typically use an easy-up with a screen kit for a shorter 2 or 3 day trip.
