or if you have one with the "cup" that the king pin sits in you could use a some plate steel weld a section of pipe to fit in the cup and either weld or bolt a ball onto the opposite side of the plate.
Thank you DirtyOil....would you mind taking a little more time with your post and give me a little more detail? I have the cup version that is pretty adjustable and know a few folks that can weld. I think you are on to something I just cannot vision it on your post.

Here you go RollingRockTX:
one could either bolt it together or better yet weld the tubing and ball to the plate. The tubing diameter smaller then the tripod "cup" so as to slide inside the cup, drill holes into tubing to match holes in cup for "locking pin".
