Are there any quality RV manufacturers?

I bought a Crossroads Toy Deck TH last year, and I am not at all happy with the quality of materials and workmanship. It is an inexpensive unit, so I figured I kinda got what I paid for and decided to sell it and get a nice 5th wheel garage toy hauler.

We have looked at Fuzion, Road Warrior, Cyclone, Voltage, and now Torque, and I see the same shoddy workmanship in these $40,000 - $80,000 units. Shelves and cabinets coming apart and falling off. Doors not straight, screws at odd angles or stripped, drawers with bad or missing keepers, sawdust and scraps everywhere. I can't believe what some of these RV manufacturers deem ready for public consumption.

I didn't like what I got with the Crossroads, but over the last year and a half I have worked through a lot of the issues. I am almost to the point that I keep the crappy trailer I know, rather than dump a substantial amount of money in another crappy brand new piece of junk.

Does anybody know of one manufacturer who shines above the rest? Failing that, is there a dealer in the Salt Lake City, Utah area I can trust?

I have never seen a better floor plan/layout than the Grand Design momentum 380...at least for me.

I remember about around '05 or '05 is about when the RV industry started going to crap. Everytime i see a post like this one, it makes me wish that I still had my 40' '06 Skyline Rampage. Two repairs along with several upgrades in 7 years of use,…I'd say that's pretty reliable. We used it like it was our house,…and our friends borrowed it too. Multiple repairs in two trips with a brand new Fuzion,…you tell me. If you buy an $80k trailer, and have to baby it,…is it worth what you paid for?

X4 on Grand Design Momentum. I absolutely love mine with zero issues so far. Looked at all the major toy haulers ( Fuzion, Raptor, Cyclone, Voltage) and we decided on the Momentum and couldn't be happier with our choice!!!!!

There are some here who would suggest you need a Kenworth to tow a pop-up.. LOL

So true. So true.

Now that is cute...but I think you may be off by a factor of say 1000 on your tons.
This is 9,750 tonnes and a bit bigger than your house.

I think when you start adding all the things we want in a 40' trailer, to include hauling our 2,000lb toys, the manufacturers must compromise on weight when selecting construction materials. Lighter materials generally mean less durable, unless you're using titanium and carbon fiber.

Houses wiggle and move with the wind and earth too. Just because you dont sit there and watch it doesn't mean its not taking place. A house weighs thousands of tons where a trailer may weight only a fraction of that so weight of the structure in relation to its movement keeps things relative.

The structures we live in are designed to hold up to the relentless day to day environments but in saying that, their ability to do so with any respect and reliability to our comfort and safety is and will be directly related to the person(s) who put it together. If the same people who slapped your RV together in a week were to have built your home, you'd be dealing with endless roof leaks, cracks in walls, doors not fitting, electrical issues, appliances not working, incorrect slope and grades, foundations collapsing, etc..... But hey, some people do have such problems with their houses and when they do the person of blame is ALWAYS the contractor. See a pattern here?

What does that have to do with rust and wood rot?

If your "house" has a steel structure on the bottom side, I call it a mobile home. Kinda like the rv world they are cheap as possible.

Does your house get towed down the hwy at 75 mph?
Does your house go down dirt roads and over speed bumps?

I'd say life for an rv is harder than a house that sits on a solid foundation.

Other than the rubber roof, it sounds the same as my house! :R

How cute.....

On that note, you take a truck of equal price, expect it to pull 20,000 lbs. all over the country while keeping you cool and comfy inside, and you don't want to have any problems with it?

That's one of the things I love about our recent purchase, a Work & Play. Metal roof.

I'm not saying a Work & Play is on the high end of quality manufacturers like what we're talking about but if I decide to get another fifth wheel anytime soon, we'll move on up to a Work & Play 44RLS. I can already tell they're made tougher for what we need at our races. Ten times better than our Cyclone was.
