Autoleveling - Rear Too Low / Drag on Ground??? Open Range

I was looking at trading in my 2016 Jayco Eagle 29.5BHDS HT 5th Wheel for a 2017 Open Range Roamer 367BHS 5th wheel. I liked everything about the Open Range but the rear landing gear (Stabilizers) look way too low. The unit is in another state from me and i was only looking at pictures. Does anyone else have a problem with hitting rear landing gear? Its a 4 point Lippert System. I mostly camp at parks but do go off the pavement a few times a year hunting / ATV
  • I've never had a problem with my Open Range and from being on the OR owners forum I have not seen anyone else mention that as a problem. You are looking at pictures and maybe the angle gives that impression. Good luck
  • I have only about 8" ground clearance on the rear landing gear on my Montana High Country. It's not as bad as it seems though, because the landing gear is pretty close behind the rear wheels. I was worried about tall speed bumps, sharp inclines, dropping a wheel into a deep hole, etc. That hasn't been a problem. I did, however, drag the gear once when I pulled out of my driveway, cut the corner too sharp, and dropped a wheel off where the pavement is higher than the ground. The ground was soft from recent rains and the wheel sank in the ground. It didn't hurt the gear, but I think if the impact had been any greater it would have.
One thing you do have to watch out for, though, is backing into a campsite with a curb at the end. Some of the curbs are higher than the bottom of the leveler.
