Backing up your rig.

Why would you not use your mirrors, backing up or going forward?

I use my mirrors until the angle becomes great enough to where the mirrors become useless.

Depends on how sharp of a turn I am making when backing. Once you get the trailer turned so far the back end is no longer in view of the mirror. Turning your head at this point is required so you can see where your trailer is headed.

I guess the answer is both.

I have electric outside mirrors. I point them anywhere I want to look.
If I'm backing up around a tight space, I will look back out my window or the right side backseat window.
I even get out and look. I might get out and look several times.
Whatever it takes.
I don't just backup blindly.

I always use my mirrors backing up the trailer. I turn my head 180* when backing up to hook up the trailer.

No looking back in my rig! I use the mirrors backing and hooking up, and like Pat said I can adjust the mirrors as the angle increases.

qchunter: you can turn your head 180 degrees? Wow! At my age i use the mirrors when I'm backing up the car!

I use the mirrors as well, but also added s wireless camera which links to my Garmin 760 GPS. Helps with backing AND when I pass people on the road.

Backup camera for hitching and mirrors for backing into a site. It's been many a year since I've had the ability to turn my head 180 for any reason.

Mirrors mostly, sometimes I look back if working at an angle. I also send my wife out there with a walkie talkie if it's a tight space, I just have her keep talking (which is easy for her). Hearing clear..clear..clear.. is reassuring when the back of the trailer is 40 something feet back there and there is a well on the blind side.

Ok, the continuous talking thing is really to keep the mic live so that there are no claims that "she told me" when the walkie was not working. This way there is no lag between when she says stop and when I hear it.
