I am in northern Illinois Chicago area and am looking to sell my toy hauler. I have not had much interest on craigslist and was wondering if there is a better place to try and sell.

I'm aware one can put one's phone number in the ad that way, but for myself, I don't want my phone number in a craigslist ad in any form. I prefer to screen interested prospects first via email before deciding whether to give my phone number. Personally, I don't want my phone ringing all the time, so am restrictive about giving my number out.

Can't say I blame you.

FWIW, one does have the option of using Google Voice and establishing a dedicated phone number just for use on Craiglist or other more public/online venues where you don't want to advertise your personal cell number. Totally free. You can receive or place calls using your GV number using your primary cell phone (requires the GV app). GV will also accept texts and voice mails (also translates VM'S to text). Bottom line, you're isolated. If things do get out of hand for any reason, I believe it only costs 10 to establish another GV number. I've been using GV for many years---works great!

I don't put my phone number in craigslist ads. I would rather deal with email spam then phone spam. I set up a junk email account to use for things like craigslist so if it got to crazy with the spam I could just dump the account and create a new one. I am surprised that I have been using that account for many years and other then a few junk mails a week I have not had a problem.
You can put your phone number in digits and letters and avoid a lot of problems, such as 5five51two1two.

I thought it would be good for hunting season.
Most hunters I know buy old cheap trailers for deer camp. Agree with others about wrong time of year.

I would advertise in warm areas where it could be used more. If the price is right people will drive a ways to purchase.

I buy and sell a lot of stuff on Craigs and from my experience if you don't have email, phone and text avail on the listing your losing a lot of potential buyers.

I run into adds all the time that I can't get a hold of the seller since they don't check there email or email gets lost in spam. Some folks don't have good cell service and some don't have voice mail set up. Some don't have text avail on their phone or don't know how to use it.

Sometimes I eventually get a hold of someone. Just last month I bought an item that only had email listed. It took them over a month to discover that my email ended up in Spam, when they finally replied I ended up buying the item at a reduced price since the the item had been for sale for so long with no offers. Last week I had a reply from the seller of an item go to my spam twice and did not see it until I had purchased another like item from someone else.

I have not had all that many scams or issues with craigs in Arizona or Colorado. I get the occasional scam and a few stupid questions but often the stupid questions end up being a buyer after I politely answer their question.

I am just sharing what I have learned selling and buying a lot of items, hopefully it helps. One other note NADA for RV's is almost worthless. I have seen a few trailers sell for significantly more and most a whole lot less in my case repeatedly 10K less than NADA.

I'm the opposite. I won't bother with an ad if there is no number.

I never put a phone number in a Craigslist ad. I always state that if they are interested send me their phone number and I will call them. Works well for me.

Many regular CL posters pick up an el cheapo Wal-Mart phone for a few bucks. Or if you have a smart phone they use a throw away phone number (google that) as mentioned scammers rarely call, they hide behind email.

After a few times back and fourth, sometimes your email address shows up in the email header even if you use their email forwarding system. It's happened to me more than once.

Do not answer stupid questions from craigslist. These are not real buyers but rather spammers looking for you to respond trying to get your email address. craigslist's mail forwarding system is better than the old days where your first reply provided them with your address but enough back and fourth and sometimes it slips through. I always put in my ads, "email's will not be responded to due to spammers." I also only check the respond by phone box when creating my add and the no replies this email box when creating the ad. This cuts down on the nonsense. However, even if you don't click the respond by text, people will still attempt to text you and if you use a cell number you will get more spam that way so I would use your home number only.

As to low ball offers, not being able to email or text eliminates a lot of those too. People generally don't have the b's to do that on the phone but it's very easy to do it by email or text without feeling like a jerk.

Another tip is to put in your ad, "calls from brokers and advertisers will not be responded to." Brokers will often try to sell you on them advertising your RV all over the place for hundreds of dollars guaranteeing a sale. This a known BS.

Lastly, don't put your phone number in the body of the ad. Only enter it in the drop down box when creating the ad. This prevents automated number searching programs from finding your number and putting it on lists for telemarketers to call.

Everyone likes to do things a little differently, and no doubt the volume of spammers may vary from region to region and city to city. Personally, I have never put a phone number in my craigslist ads. I communicate via the craigslist email forwarding system. I ignore spammers and so on, and even if I reply, they don't have my real email address. Even a legitimate shopper who ends up buying my item for sale never gets my real email address. I never provide my phone # unless and until I have "vetted" a shopper and they are coming to see what I am selling.
