- poloaceExplorerThanks for the input. I drove here in Vernal from Rawlins on 191 down thru Flaming gorge with the 9 switch backs. Had no problems. Just drove slow.
- JIMNLINExplorer IIIWe've go over Douglas Pass from I-70 to Vernal several times when going into Utah pulling our 11200 lb 5th wheel trailer. Great drive.
But we travel lots of small state highways anyway. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIHow comfortable are you driving mountain road towing?
Vernal to Fruita is about 130 miles going to Rangely and over Douglas Pass.
Typical mountain 2 lane road but only a few switchbacks...southbound is steepest decline and lots of truck traffic
The other route you mentioned.......Hwy 191/I-70....260 miles.
Easy drive......but almost 5 hours vs little over 2 hours.
I tow 34' 5vr but I always take back roads - TGPILOTExplorerWhen I used to live in Rangeley, CO I would just go straight over the mountain to Grand Junction which is near Fruta, CO. Vernal isn't that far from Rangeley as I recall about an hour or less.
