CA permanent plates

CA has a "permanent" trailer plate where you don't buy stickers every year. I've seen them on boat trailers and utility trailer but a couple of weeks ago saw one on a pop up ten trailer. Anyone know anything about them? Are they cheaper and what qualifies for one? I'm too lazy to check the DMV site.
  • If you're trailer is paid for you owe it to yourself to check this out. MAJOR savings (unfortunately the bank and I don't agree on it being paid for )
  • I had a Coleman PU some years back. I had the permanent plates on it. Had to pay a fee every 5 years. This is from California.
  • So, just wondering....what do they classify a horse trailer that has living quarters? Anyone have one?
  • For cargo type trailers....not ones classified as an RV. I had one on my first WW because when I bought, it had a AZ title. When I took it to the DMV for the inspection and the intelligent people there classified it as a trailer, not an RV....I laughed all the way home.

Here in VIRGINIA we have permanent plates for the trailer but still have to get safety inspection once a year which gives us a YR/MO Safety Inspection sticker to put on the tongue area...

  • The only "camp-type" trailers allowed to participate in the program are those under 16ft long ball-to-bumper and under 96" wide; though it looks like ALL tent trailer/popups regardless of length/width can be so licensed.
