can you use a motom for wi fi in an rv?

I used one of these C. Crane US3 Super USB Wifi Antenna 3 a few years back. Available from AMAZON or C CRANE direct. It comes with disc program and has to connect to your computer/laptop USB port. My old XP computer ended up quitting on me and I never could find the program (Didn't look very hard) to get it working on the replacement computer.

This was great in the trailer using the suction mounts for the antenna mounted in the RV Window.



What we do here at the house now with our two parked RV TRAILERS is use one of these Linksys RE1000 Wireless-N Range Extender (AMAZON) which is mounted in the house window facing the back yard. This works out better for us then USB WIFI Antenna did as it is good for many devices used at the same time. We sit out in our PATIO alot and bringing the tablets with us works great getting back to our house modem.


This just plugs into 120VAC and picks up the WIFI wireless signal from the house modem/router. Then it repeats the WIFI signal and makes it available for other devices usually around 100-feet away to access the house modem. Easy setup and has password protection etc...


I think I saw one of these at WALMART as well... We use AMAZON here for almost all of our electronic purchases...

Lots of things like this out there to help you out with your situation.

When in travel mode we bring along a Verizon MIFI unit with us that gives us a 3GB Dataplan Internet Connection anywhere VERIZON CELL PHONE signals work which is almost everywhere in the US. This connects up to five WIFI enabled devices we have with us. Computers, Tablets etc... Does not require anything from our CELLPHONEs...

A WiFi repeater or extender like the Pepwave Surf-on-the-Go works for me. It has an antenna that picks up available signals and you connect to one of them. Then you connect your devices to the network created by the Pepwave. So we only have one setup to do at each place we stay, and all our devices lock on to the Pepwave.

You can get a BearExtender (brand name) WiFi extender. I'm not sure why you're having problems getting her signal inside your rig, but try the BearExtender. Cheap and easy!

Note that the above Crane antenna while very useful connects to a single PC. Perhaps spend a little more and get a router with amplified antenna so that all WiFi devices in the rig can be connected.

We use the Verizon MiFi (not what you are asking about) which can connect up to 5 devices. No cables including our wireless printer. Just suggesting you consider a more general WiFi solution.

There are various WiFi antennas with amplifiers that would likely give you inside access - if you meant inside the RV. This is one of many discussed on these boards.

Do you mean a router rather than a modem?

I bought a receiver/booster jobby for about $69 at walmart that receives the weak signal and boosts it so I can receive wifi all over the house.

I would use a pair of of routers. One connected to her modem and placed in a window facing your rig. The second router in your rig connects to her router, being assigned a unique IP address. You can then connect wirelessly from your rig,

The router in a window will work for at least 100 feet. Possible to use a single router in the window if your pc can pull a signal, also possible to mount an antenna outside your rig.
