Carrying kayaks with 5er's

Toy hauler, roof rack or custom build a rack for the back of the rv.

Thanks for the pictures Ken. With my 10' kayaks I guess having them stick out the front could be manageable. I carry a scooter on the back so that end of the rig is out.

We carry our two 12 foot yaks inside our 28 foot 5er. We use some towels or blankets under each one.

I carry a 14' kayak over the front. I had a 2" receiver hitch installed on the front of my truck for the Yakima dry dock but some folks opt for the product from bodiak.us.

Best place for a kayak is the roof of your vehicle - I would never consider putting kayak, canoe etc on top of RV - RV roofs have enough issues as is.

I agree. We want to put solar on our roof but I can't imagine how I would get them on and off the roof of a trailer. I carry a step ladder to access the roof of our pickup cap. Also, I would be concerned about overhead wires and overpasses.

We carry ours in our bedroom. We have a rear bedroom with an outside door and are able to lay them on the bed at an angle. Works great but would like to carry them outside also. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion but my better half wouldn't go with indoor storage. If we're making miles and pull into a Walmart for the night I don't like the idea of having to put the kayaks outside at night or climbing over them if we have to stay put somewhere on a rainy day. Putting them in the bedroom might work if I was just traveling from the house to the lake but that's not what we do. We are planning to spend extended periods on the road so we need to have a place for everything. I'm a bit concerned about the reduced visibility of hanging them over the windshield on the roof of the pickup but that seems to be the only practical solution.

If we need the bedroom while traveling I strap one of the kayaks go the ladder using a chair rack to hold the bottom and six bungee cords to bold it down. The second one then goes I to the living room between the couches next to the bikes. I would love to find a way to make a rack to store them under the fiver in front of the wheels.
