Hi Team,Looking for some feedback and constructive critism on my logic. Backgound1) I own a 2010 F250 CC 2WD Diesel2) To stay close to the trucks payload specs, we own a 28ftoot 5th wheel with a dry pin wieght of 1300 pounds. 3) Considering a Toy hauler to carry an assortment of toys and add some space. Issue1) Most all (if not all) 5th wheels that meet our requirements are way over the pin wieght I want to carry2) So we arre considering a Evergreen Amped 32 GS TT. It is a very 5th wheel like TT, Very high cielings, lots of storage, etc....So my questions:1) am I nuts going from a 5th wheel to a TT2) Equiped with a hensley or ProPride hitch, can I expect reasonable similar towing behavior to my Trail Air Tri Glide Equiped 5th wheel?3) How about mileage? Will I see a drop going to a TT? Any inputs would be appreciated...ThanksDan

No, you are not "nuts" for wanting to change. The reality is, your "old needs" have changed so now you are considering alternatives to accommodate your "present needs". Nothing wrong with that. You simply want the right equipment for the right job, on a budget that fits your current situation.I don't understand why so many uses the term "upgrade" when going from one type of camper to another. It's not an "upgrade" at all, it's a change in needs. And we all should be grateful the RV industry has provided a good variety of campers to accommodate everyone's "need" as well as our "wants" too.Get the toy hauler and be happy!I do not see any impact in your fuel mileage. You might even get slightly better if the trailer has a lower profile than your 5er. Also, with a trailer, you gain full use of the bed of your truck, in addition to the space in the toy hauler!Good luck ... go for it and live the dream!

Not crazy at all. It would be crazy to get something other than what suits your needs just because someone thinks a fiver is somehow cooler.

If the TT fits your needs better than the fiver go for it.I towed my prior TT with a Hensley and it towed just as well as my current 5'er A Hensley or PP will tow just as well as a 5'er.I imagine MPG's will be similar.

I pulled a 29 foot Coachmen Catalina TT for 6 years with a Hensley-Arrow and GMC Sierra 2500 HD Duramax. I purchased a 34 foot Montana 5th wheel in the spring of 2014 and took off this summer for all kinds of fun. The one advantage I noticed in pulling the 5th Wheel vs. a TT was the fatigue factor. On reflecting on our travels this summer we realized how pulling the 5th wheel was easier on our bodies and minds over long distance then the TT. We pulled from Bakersfield, California –to Eastern Washington – over to the Oregon Coast and then home with both rigs.Edit: Guess I should update my sig

My undestanding of the Dexter Electronic Sway control is it will control moderate to sever sway, It is a safety item for quick stops, evasive manuvers, etc. Still need some form of sway control for minor sway. Checking with dexter on this...

I don't have problems with sway, but I looked over the information on Dexter. Do us a favor, when you get your rig set up, give us a report someday how the Dexter does. I'm curious. I've never seen this before. Kind of an interesting concept because it's electronic and not mechanical and works independent of your tow vehicle ... well.... I'm just curious. Thanks!

Everyone says when going from a TT to a 5er they are "stepping up" or "upgrading" so I would say they have a reason for saying so!

You will hate pulling a TT!

If you do lots of towing (or plan to), then it would be wrong to put "potential towing differences/issues aside". I have zero experience, but if any TT is going to have stability/load balance issues (and they do), seems like a TT toy hauler is the most likely candidate.

I had one bad sway problem with a TT many yrs ago and I have always felt I would rather tow a fiver and be maxed out at 100% of GCWR than tow a TT at 80% of GCWR. Last thing I would want to do is tow a TT at 100% of GCWR. OK, so my experience is out of date, but I recently rode along with a friend moving a TT just 30 miles and could not believe how uncomfortable the ride was compared to a fiver. Just too much leverage even with a "correct setup" and it would cause too much driver fatigue for me. Guess if that is what you are used to, then you think it is fine. But as another poster indicated, his experience moving from a fiver to a TT was not good.

Before making the switch, maybe you have a friend with a TT and you can ride shotgun. Maybe it would be better to get a more capable tow vehicle first and later get a fiver TH.

If there is not enough storage in a 37' TT you have way to much stuff.

If you fill a 37' trailer you don't need a 5th wheel, you need a moving van.:B

That does look nice! The fifth wheels do have the front storage bay that TT's lack.

Ass far as storage, livability ofthe interior, etc. The TT we are considering is virtually identical to a 5th wheel. In fact on the lot it is sitting next to a Cougar 5th wheel and the TT is the same Hieght!

I am 6'3" with relatively long arms and when inside I cannot reach up and touch the cieling....

I will never go back to a TT because of the increased storage with the 5th. The large basement and front storage offer far more outside storage than TT's of similar size and floorplan. I don't want to have to pack up the bed of the truck or floor of the trailer each trip. When I switched to a 5th all that stopped. Plus it tows so much easier.
